The only big disruptor coming in 2 years will be the next local, State, and Federal elections all happening in 2028.

Expect the Olympics to be a main topic in SEQ Council and State elections policy campaigns.

Yep operational costs set to blow out due to much greater regional spread of events.

Did they pay any attention to Victoria’s experience with that for Commonwealth Games?! 🫠

The last part is code for Goverment Department’s will have to cover more operational costs within their budgets, so it shows as in-kind on the OC’s budget and they still claim delivery ‘within budget’.

Which means Olympic operational costs will divert investment in other services in areas like….transport….

With most of the inner city roads closed off for the Games, the need for green lanes would be redundant.

The only feasible green grid would be the Albert St connecting Roma St to City Botanical., the rest are bus routes.

The QR Central Station Upgrade project page is still live. No dates on the information.

> Queensland Rail has been working to upgrade the facilities at Central station, making them more reliable for customers.

> Works completed to date include the refurbishment of back-of-house facilities (with new offices, first aid area and customer communication facilities), as well as the replacement of lifts on platforms 1-4. Additionally, the escalators between Central Station and the Anzac Square arcade, and the adjacent stairs have been upgraded to enhance reliability, safety and customer experience.
>
> The next phase of work will involve upgrading the escalators and lift on platforms 5 and 6.

I can’t see anything happening until CRR opens which would then give more flexibility for shuffling services around platform closures.

But given the claimed timeframe for CRR opening now will there be time before the Olympics?

It absolutely makes sense to wait til Cross River Rail is operational as the load on Central should be substantially reduced then.

I really hope more details of the John McAslan + Partners design surface, as I am really interested by their proposal. Looks like they intend to remove the upper level concourse almost completely, which would be a big change!

I would suspect that’s only for the line closest to Ann Street, as it effectively reinstates the station’s original building-side platform.

However, thinking about it, doing this would reduce the station to 5 lines, as the Platform 1 line butts up hard against the edge of the building.

I don’t think this can be right. The sector 2 trains have to stay on the mains and because of the track and tunnel layout that means only using platform 5 southbound and 6 northbound. This means Ferny Grove and Cleveland have four platforms between them, which is a waste but there’s not really any way around it. A similar situation will exist at Roma St although you could, at a pinch have the southbound sector 2 trains swing over to platforms 6 and 7, but it’s a bit messy.

Then the central station needs to be recofigured and teacks switches adjusted for the better as Sector 3 using 4 lines just for Ferny to zcleveland is overkill for Central.station
