Given the importance of the inner city stations, full height or part height platform screen doors would be very good. As we have seen in the past, it only takes 1 incident at these inner city stations to put the entire network into disarray.
Iād reckon part height screen doors would be better for Central and Fortitude Valley stations since the only form of ventilation at these stations are at the ends when the tracks enter the sunlight. If they were to do full-height screen doors and install a proper ventilation system at the stations, then they would have to either tear through Sofitel and Valley Metros to install the vents or to make the most Little-John-esque setup for the vents.
Since the Cleveland/Ferny Grove line will get all of platforms 1-4 exclusive, but the other lines (except CRR lines) still use Platforms 5 & 6?. Shouldnāt we change the switches whilst we are at it
Why will Shorncliffe/Doomben lines stop using platforms 1-4?
Not really possible. I donāt recall where, but someone posted a line diagram recently. P2 is basically a passing loop of P1. Same with P3/P4. They donāt connect to the mains tunnels.
Because theyāll be using the mains through the city, not the suburban tracks. Mains stop on P5/P6.
When central gets closed for upgrades, theyll need to reconfigure the lines
Maybe what theyāre doing over Easter?
Reconfiguring north/east of Central might not be too difficult because itās an open-air junction; but the mains and subs are in different tunnels at the other end, so changing the track configuration south/west of Central towards Roma Street would require significant earthworks.
Why are they changing over to mains ? Is it because they will be paired with Ipswich/Springwood line?
Only just looked at the image closely and Iām happy to be wrong but looking at that⦠is the Doomben Line replacing the Ipswich Line at the stations between Indooropilly-Milton and is the Springfield line the only line servcing all stations between the city and Darra post-CRR?
Also looks like thereāll be a regular inner-city service between Bowen Hills & Boggo Road and another between Exhibition and Boggo Road via CRR tunnels
I have a feeling that the short inner-city āshuttleā services show which stations the city-terminating trains will terminate. Itās very stupid that they are terminating the citybound northern Sector 1 and 3 trains at Boggo Road, since they would have to run empty to Clapham Yard after Yeerongpilly; that will waste the already limited capacity between Boggo Road and Yeerongpilly. They should terminate them at Yeerongpilly instead so the trains will immediately reach Clapham Yard once they terminate.
The asterisk does make me hopeful that they will look into this, and that they will realise that it will be better to make the southbound trains terminate at Yeerongpilly instead of Boggo Road. But this is Queensland, so they will probably do the least effective way to run things.
Yer would really prefer doomben in sector 3 so southbrisbane/southbank wont get unserutilized
Not possible, itās on the wrong track pair.
At which point tracks became non interchangable? Before merivale bridge??? Or around boggo road?
Brisbane Airport services could also terminate at Boggo Road, helping either frequency for South Brisbane/Bank.
Itās not so much that theyāre not interchangeable, but to do so would create a conflicting move, reducing capacity.
Currently, thereās two pairs of tracks between Northgate and Roma St. The eastern pair, called the suburbans, carry trains from Shorncliffe, Airport, Eagle Junction, and Ferny Grove, which continue to Cleveland, Beenleigh, and Gold Coast. The western pair carry trains from Caboolture/Sunshine Coast and Kippa-Ring to Ipswich/Rosewood and Springfield Central.
Post-CRR, there will be six tracks south of Mayne. The westernmost pair will be the CRR tracks, from SC/Cab/KR, heading for the southern lines via Exhibition. These are the western pair north of Albion. The middle pair will be the mains, originating from Shorncliffe, Airport and Doomben, and going to the western lines. The easternmost pair will be Ferny Grove-Cleveland. This is the only corridor that will operate via South Brisbane post-CRR.
Not after CRR, they canāt.
4 tph does seem too infrequent for South Brisbane-Boggo Rd, and Iām not sure how this will be fixed.
Maybe run 2 tph Ferny Grove-Cleveland, 2 tph Ferny Grove to Cannon Hill, and 4 tph Bowen Hills-Boggo Rd. That would give 8 tph through the inner south.
Ok so how would freight go fron Northgate to 1) Port of Brisbane and 2) Acacia Ridge which are across all sectors?
Like I said, itās not that itās impossible, but it would create a conflicting movement. These canāt be entirely eliminated, but you would want to minimise them. You certainly wouldnāt want one every 30 minutes.
Freight from Northgate to PoB usually travels via Exhibition, then over the Merivale Bridge. This does block trains going from Roma St to the west.
Freight from Acacia Ridge to Northgate often travels via Tennyson, then via Exhibition.
Or how about:
- 2tph from Ferny Grove to Cleveland
- 2tph from Ferny Grove to Cannon Hill / Manly
ā 4tph from Ferny Grove to Cannon Hill / Manly combined - 2tph from Cleveland to Bowen Hills
ā 4tph from Cleveland to Bowen Hills combined
ā 6tph from Manly/Cannon Hill to Bowen Hills
ā Might risk reliability issues and timetable gaps - 2tph from Manly/Cannon Hill to Bowen Hills (for filling timetable gaps)
ā 8tph from Manly to Cannon Hill combined
ā Possible extension of 8tph running to Ferny Grove despite level crossings of Ferny Grove line
This is what I think could be done to improve the combined service frequency at the South Bank area.
Edit: I feel like Sector 2 between Northgate and Indooroopilly should also have a bit more than a combined 4tph frequency, and the Doomben line through-running does not help with the timetable gaps to Indooroopilly. Iād rather see a Northgate-Indooroopilly service instead to add service between the high-density corridor, while the Doomben line terminates at Roma St.
