Check out Space4Cycling, the local bike advocacy group. They did a recent Facebook post about this.

Yes on the first session. Similar to the NGRs but they have provided extra space for bikes at either end of the train as well with fold up seats.

I would like there to be a cyclist-activated button for the left turn from Lamington Ave to Nudgee Rd (near Doomben station). Any idea who to contact to suggest such a thing?

Probably the council, but it might help to talk to your local councillor, whoever it is for that area.

Problem is, I don’t live in the area, it’s part of my work commute though.

I might write to the local councillor anyway, but I’ll likely be ignored.

Apparently, Councils got extra funding this year to proceed with bikeways to connect up to existing bikeways.

BCC are also going to focus on a route to and from the Valley suprisingly enough.

If you were one of 835 people who signed a petition for a protected bikelane on Herschel St in the CBD, you will have received notification that the request “has now been investigated”. Sadly, the “outcome” you might be excited to read about when you click the link is disappointing. It seems that Council have been waiting for funding from the state government before they will even begin looking at maybe one day contemplating potentially extending the CityLink Cycleway between Fortitude Valley and the CBD. Perhaps. Or not.

The response leaves us wondering how much they actually investigated Herschel St. (Perhaps they couldn’t find it between the CBD and Fortitude Valley??)

We don’t know if Council performed any traffic counts, but during 90 minutes on Thursday morning, we observed people on bikes entering Herschel St from the Bicentennial Bikeway ramp at every light cycle, with bikes usually out-numbering motor vehicles entering from the Riverside Expressway. Disturbingly, a high percentage of those cars and SUVs pulled across into the no-standing zone by the kerb to drop off passengers and then pull out again. Those manoeuvres make Herschel St a stressful environment to ride in, and a nervous one to watch.

Really, we’re not sure what options Council needs to further analyse. A protected bikelane on Herschel St has been recommended for over a decade; years of construction work proved that 2 inbound lanes are not required for motor traffic; and there are loading areas off the street and conveniently just across the road. It’s time for Council to demonstrate that they are actually “committed to improving active transport connectivity within the CBD” and get on with installing a protected bi-directional bikeway on Herschel St. Anything else is dishonest.

I noticed that while the trains can take bikes the buses in SEQ don’t and they don’t have bike racks, can someone who has been in SEQ longer know if and when bike racks on buses were trialed because I think I heard that they trialed them at some point.

Trialed for a few years leading up to 2008. In 2008 the powers to be decided that it was not worth the cost, and the delays to buses on routes. Bit here [Australian Cycling Forums - Login](https://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6197)

Apparently the 444 and GCL weren’t the appropriate routes for bike racks, but I wonder if some of the longer-distance routes like the 529 and 539 could successfully carry bicycles on a rack, or perhaps even in trailer?

It’d be so cool if in a different timeline, Moggill Rd had its own dedicated cycleway from Moggill all the way to Kenmore, Indro, and Toowong 😭

The closest we got (in terms of meaningful active transport infrastructure) for Moggill & Bellbowrie was with the green bridge proposal(s) to either Riverview or Riverhills….

There’s the Moggill Rd bikeway being (very, very slowly) progressed through planning. This is on the state controlled corridor, outbound beginning at the Centenary Motorway at Indro.

3 years to move from “planning” to “preliminary design”. Of course, more than a decade of advocacy before the previous state government committed to anything at all…

I’m not expecting much under the current transport minister. I think the best we can hope for is that it doesn’t get cancelled outright. Who knows, they may have even completed the preliminary design by the time the next term rolls around?
