Measured walk time was as follows:

9 min Kangaroo Point Bridge (Alice St)
16 min Kangaroo Point Bridge (Scott St)
18 min Main Street at Thornton St Bus Stop

Research question: Is a direct bus from Kangaroo Point to the Brisbane CBD a must have, should have or a could have?

A high volume of pedestrian, scooter and bike traffic was observed on the bridge. A bus with a 15 min wait and another 15 min journey (plus or minus traffic congestion) that is slower and more indirect than just walking directly into the CBD (or taking a scooter or bike) is probably not going to add much value here.

The bridge has wide, dedicated bike and scooter lanes.

And the walk is actually nice! I would personally recommend this as a relaxing and great early morning or evening walk or commute.

Not all parts of Kangaroo Point are convenient to, or easily accessible from, the Kangaroo Point Bridge. From the tip of the point down to about where Dockside and St Vincent’s are the areas that get the most benefit from the bridge - south of that point, where the Bradfield Highway splits into Main Street and Shafston Avenue, I think the bridge is of less benefit and provision of buses is a must have.

The bridge is a useful connection is your destination is in the city, but a lack of good frequent buses somewhat denies Kangaroo Point residents from connection into the broader transport network. A frequent bus that connected to buses and trains at Woollongabba at one end and the Valley at the other would be good. I mean every 15 minutes all day seven days a week.

In terms of bridges, the most benefit always comes back to geometry. Bulimba-Teneriffe always stands out, as does Bellbowrie-Riverhills. More bridges in or around the city would definitely be getting to diminishing returns now I would think.

Absolutely. Improving the 235 and a possible merger with 29 UQ Lakes could achieve that. It will be further improved when CRR Woolloongabba opens in, at this stage, 2029.
