Brisbane's New Bus Network Phase 1

It should be given the 174 was merged with the 175. Put those extra buses to good use.

The 29 will be redundant once CRR opens.

For the impatient types, get off at Mater Hill and what for the next bus going to The Gabba, and vice-versa to UQ

Have they (The BCC) quickly forgotten about the state of the Story Bridge and the need of a heavy vehicle ban on it until the start major repairs on the bridge.

All these proposals if warranted are best suited to phase two when CRR opens. I wouldn’t be changing anything just yet. There are a few things that should be tweaked other than those bus routes suggested.

IIRC, the 209 was originally routed via W’Gabba so when the Eastern Busway came in via Stones Corner the 209 was re-routed and the 29 introduced in response.

The 29 also fulfils a valuable function in providing shuttle capacity between UQ and Boggo Rd, with W’Gabba just being one of the closest available turnarounds.

Demand between Boggo Rd and W’Gabba wouldn’t be much to write home about.

Was thinking more about extending Route 29.

Service would start at UQ Lakes, Boggo Rd Station, PA Hospital, O’Keefe St Portals, Buranda, Wooloongabba CRR, Kangaroo Pt, Fortitude Valley, RBWH.

The extension would be funded by amalgamating Route 26, and also Route 234. This would be in alignment with best practice network planning principles.

Are buses leaving PAH allowed to turn right into OKeefe Street? The line markings look like its no right turn from EB inbound.

That looks about right. :slightly_smiling_face: We want the extended Route 29 bus to service Buranda busway platforms, so passengers can transfer from M1.

UQ Lakes bound, this can be achieved by having the bus turn left off the SEB (after serving Buranda outbound platform) up into O’Keefe St travel about 200m towards PA Hospital, then turn right into the second O’Keefe st busway portal then to PA Hospital station and UQ Lakes. A right turn lane will need to be painted onto O’Keefe St.

RBWH bound, Route 29 will exit right onto O’Keefe St after serving PA Hospital, continue about 200m, turn right again into the SEB, and then travel city bound towards Woolloongabba.

Could you please understand already that the demand and trip destinations of the 26 are completely different and separate from those of the M1?

Or are you gonna say that making a THREE STEP TRANSFER for people coming from other southern bus services is completely okay and “good for transit”?

Someone from, I dunno, Calamvale wants to go to Kangaroo Point or the Gabba. With your “solution” that passenger would have to take the 150, then a Metrobus, THEN the 26.

Does that sound fair to you? I can assure you, not for most people.

You’re adding unnecessary extra steps in the name of so-called ""efficiency” when in reality it would just kill the service altogether.

I’m not against transfers at all. They are absolutely needed to run a network that allows people to move from point A to B in a quick and effective manner.

What I am against is to add unnecessary extra steps just for the sake of it.

Is it possible that the only extension or upgrade of the BUZ network happening around the Metro is this piece of (very welcome!) LNP pork barreling?

Does someone have the numbers on when the last upgrade or extension to the BUZ network happened?

Time to get serious about a proper high frequency network everywhere.

They did add some extra buses to peak services and started buses earlier when Quirk was in. I believe it was the 130 and 444 respectively.

I note in the estimates video they are finally going to extend the 444 to the Moggill Sports Park which is good.

I think it should be extended to Mogill Ferry, during operational hours.

In reality (as much as I love the nostalgia value of the last remaining punt on the Brisbane River), it needs to be replaced by a bridge so the bus can connect to Riverview Station directly. I was hoping the bastard would sink in the 2011 floods and force the governments hand but alas, it was not to be. I’m all for a bit of history but there needs to be more bridges over the Brisbane River period.

I don’t know that it needs to be every trip though - in the off-peak, maybe only every 30 minutes would do.

There is very, very little in the way of anything south of current terminus, and I’m not convinced a connection to Riverview by bridge would be that efficient a use of the resources. If there was a bridge, I’d be inclined to set up a less frequent Bus Queensland route to run from Riverview to the Moggill shops instead of running the 444 to Riverview. There are some other areas adjacent to Ipswich that also need better services by now - Karalee, Mt Crosby, Karana Downs etc - and that service could also connect to the 444.

Your bus timetable might be about to change again

Brisbane’s new bus network is so efficient, some services are running too early and the timetable might need to be tweaked.

As the state marks one year since 50¢ fares we revealed Brisbane buses have not hit 90 per cent on-time running for two years.

I’ve noticed that on the Riverside quartet: in some occasions the services can arrive at Margaret St too early due to padding added to counteract the unpredictability of the Captain Cook Bridge.

In a massive turn of events, the 555 can run quite early as well compared to a few months ago where it consistently ran very late.

For high frequency services I’d reckon a switch to headway operations would be more adequate.

Agree :+1:

Oh, that and move the 555 to full artic operation while considering a merge with the 572 and express running between Buranda to Griffith.

The 572 routing via Daisy Hill is already done after 7pm and would take about 2-3 extra buses, while the express pattern would bring it closer to the 569 while keeping inner suburban demand satisfied by the M1.

I’m curious, has the problem of the transfer between the 555 and the 572 improved since the busway extension? I remember missing transfers due to the 555 running late, and the 572 departing on time
