The reason the U.S. and Canada build their own buses is because they need to be suitable to their own conditions. There’s a reason why there buses also look completely different to our ones.
Well then, that obviously means that the diesel bus fleet is not to our conditions then. SEQ bus fleets are built on imported chassis and drivetrains from the likes of Mercedes Benz, MAN and Scania, none of which have manufacturing facilities in Australia, while Volvo do not produce their bus chassis locally.
I think we should honestly look at implementing a North American bus design here. But build the buses here to our specifications
The local bus manufacturer with the highest local content percentage, if I recall correctly, was Bustech.
It collapsed.
The Metrobuses are a product from Switzerland. The HESS LighTram
I reckon this thread should be hidden from public view now. We’ve had our fun.
Theres just so much factually incorrect information here, theres some clearly charged national government policy views being placed here, and alot listed here goes against our own public policy.
Bart Mellish (Shadow Minister for Transport and Main Roads) is promoting a petition for the Queensland Government to reverse the decision to acquire diesel buses.
4725-26 Buy electric buses instead of diesel for Queensland sovereign & economic security
Glad to see it’s a parliamentary petition and not a data harvesting exercise. Kudos Bart.
