What about after the LGCFR project? From my understanding Beenleigh Station will be rebuilt
Maybe Bethania to Varsity as a short term option? With the Beenleigh reshuffling the service could end there in the future.
In a post LGCFR world, wouldnât it just be better to pursue more frequent standard GC services, rather than trying to shoehorn a short working service onto the corridor?
In a post-Faster Rail scenario Iâd say a two tier service could be offered for the Gold Coast:
- Varsity Lakes - Caloundra, express
- Varsity Lakes - Exhibition, stopping all stations from Beenleigh to Kuraby then express Kuraby to Boggo Road, stopping only at Altandi
The second service could very much serve a dual purpose: to allow Loganites to have a fast way to reach either the GC and the Brisbane CBD from their local stations, while also giving the GC a one-seat ride to those areas.
The idea in my view is to give every station in Sector 1 a 15 minute service with express, limited express and all stations patterns.
@alexjago Would we have trip data showing the flow of passengers from GC stations who get on or off at Beenleigh? Just curious to see.
Thereâs no intention of throughrouting GC and SC services though. Itâs better for reliability and fleet utilisation to pair the outer service on one end with tge inner service on the other end, hence:
- Sunshine Coast (new) and Caboolture to Beenleigh
- Redcliffe Peninsula to Gold Coast
If it canât be timetabled for 8tph combined at something reasonably clockface between Exhibition and Boggo Road, there can be a shortworking covering this bit to even it out.
Thereâs ample room for 12tph or more south of Beenleigh (IIRC it is signalled to allow 17tph even now without any ETCS operating) so I donât know there is any conceivable reason to have split patterns instead of just running more trains. Beenleigh probably only needs 8tph at best. GC needs a consistent 8tph for the whole peak. With 4tph each line in the interpeak there should be a bit of spreading out from those who donât need to travel in peak hour. Plenty of room then for (a) more trains and (b) gradually extending all GC and RP line platforms to take 9 car trains. On that latter point, it looks like the only station (current or future) on the GC and RP lines where you have a major issue is Kippa-Ring, where you would need to reconfigure the yard access. Otherwise the ETCS rollout should take care of the rest.
You can say whatever you want about pairing Kippa with Varsity but I can guarantee you the powers that be will pair it with Caloundra in the end.
Saying âcoast to coastâ sells a lot more to the public than âcoast to eshay landâ, which is sadly what the Redcliffe line is known for nowadays.
If you say so.
Neither side of politics has committed to either option yet right? Thereâs not even an indication on a preferred pairing. I imagine itâll be announced when the rumoured line numbering gets introduced (assuming that happens in the lead up or around the opening of CRR).
I guess the question will be is it an operational decision made by QR or a political decision from the ministerâs office.
Under red team I can see it being operational, but blue team certainly has the ministers doing a lot of decision making lately that would ordinarily be managed by public servants.
5771-5776 were actually intended for Caloundra. Marcoola doesnât have electric facilities installed.
Speaking ofâŚ
991 to 994 have been in service for a fair bit now. All of them have been assigned to Molendinar with the newish cyan livery.
The newest additions are units 995 to 998, assigned to Coomera. Same livery, same all.
Line pairs were indicated by the network diagrams in SEQ Rail Connect. These were confirmed by TMR staff at the time. These could change within sectors now that Caloundra is happening.

Government Statement: Pimpama train station officially opens
After a decade of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy.
I donât get it. Itâs unnecessary, but also completely ludicrous. Stations donât pop out of thin air a year after an election. Politics just annoys me sometimes ![]()
It is very irritating, especially when it continues on through the better part of a whole Government term.
My favourite one was definitely the New Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Service at GCUH (Statement from 4 March 2025, day 127 of the new government)
They legitimately expect people to believe that âafter a decade of Laborâ the LNP has âdeliveredâ a brand new 40 bed facility within their first 18 weeks (including Christmas..)
Agree with the bottom part. The existing Sunshine Coast line should virtually be all shuttles to/from Beerwah. If there are any remaining directs, it would likely be the token âGympielanderâ services via Bowen Hills.
However saying all that, Iâd predict/pretty much expect that the existing âGympielandersâ will be converted to a 4 or 5 daily shuttle service to Beerwah, replacing the current âGympielanderâ services.
