Pretty horrific frequencies and span of hours in Ipswich for the most part.
The 502, 503, and 515 are such important routes in Ipswich, especially for school kids⌠Itâs such a shame their frequencies are so awful. Super pumped for some frequency updates
Thanks @rowangray for the list.
Indeed, and when you add in the frequent service cancellations due to the driver shortages it becomes very testing.
515? Itâs the only route in Ipswich with decent frequency, at least on weekdays, when I imagine most school students would be using it for school travel purposes.
Itâs a bit misleading cause it actually has short running. Only 1 in 4 goes all the way to Willowbank and 2 in 4 go to Yamanto.
So effectively:
- Brassal to UniSQ: ~15 minute frequency
- UniSQ to Yamanto: ~30 minute frequency
- Yamanto to Willowbank Bank: ~60 minute frequency
Route 500 used to run at a higher frequency but during my time at TL, I can admit I actually did cut it to itâs current frequency, with the rationale that the majority (not all of it) of the route is covered by the train. The resources taken out of route 500 were put elsewhere (I believe it was for Springfield which was in early development at the time).

I kinda understand having a lower frequency to Willowbank, but I think all journeys should go to Yamanto, and every second one to Willowbank. I guess the issue with this is that it reduces legibility, although no more than currently exists where thereâs three termini.
It is planned for the 515 to increase frequency to Yamanto.
Translink says they have 22 delivery partners. The article says 20 operators accepted the wage increase so that suggests thereâs exactly one other operator beyond Bus Queensland who didnât accept.
Have you seen the light and accepted my viewpoint that it should all be run internally?
It is used by many school kids, and that is unfortunate because itâs never on time . Every time without fail I have taken the 515 it was late. Thereâs also constant service cancellations, or thatâs what Iâve seen in the last few days from Translink </3
Is Bus Queensland and Park Ridge Transit counted together or separately? The below linked list shows both individually - it also shows only 18 delivery partners for the South East.
Worth also noting that this delivery partner list also splits up Kinetic into its Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast operations. Also, the list doesnât include Logan Coaches, who operates the 587.
The whole area needs a blanket bus boost. And I wonder if there would be value in a new bus depot out at Springfield?
I would assume the figure of 22 doesnât double count operators with the same parent company, and includes regional operators.
Doesnât that 22 count include QR?
In the near future there wonât be no such thing as the Ipswich City Council. It will be a surburb and part of âMagna Brisbaniusâ.
QR is listed as a SEQ operator under the Contact Us section (which the â22 Delivery Partnersâ link in Cygnusâs post directs us to):

Counting all SEQ operators across all 4 modes and all regional urban bus operators, ignoring long distance services / tourist services and any on-demand services not operated by an urban bus operator, and aggregating operations that are run by the same group, itâs still only really 23 operators statewide. Iâm expecting more consolidation in the next 10 years as some of the smaller family held operations sell and/or merge. Some of the standalone operators only have a few services each and they tend to not be very busy.
Aggregated operators (1-4 are multinationals, 5-7 are privately held locals)
- Keolis Downer, soon to be just Keolis (G:link + Hornibrook buses)
- Kelsian (all SEQ ferries + North Stradbroke buses)
- Kinetic (Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast urban, inner Bundaberg, inner Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Magnetic Island, Cairns)
- CDC (Sunshine Coast school, Gladstone, outer Rockhampton / Yeppoon / Gracemere / Mt Morgan)
- Pulitano Group / Bus Queensland (Park Ridge, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Toowoomba)
- Trans North (Bowen, Innisfail)
- Cavbus (Yarrabilba, Maleny, on-demand in Ipswich)
Standalone operators (8-9 are in public hands, 10 is a multinational but with only a single operation, 11-23 as far as I know are all still privately held locals - all are bus only except QR)
- QR (throughout SEQ)
- BCC (inner Brisbane)
- Transdev (Redlands)
- Brisbane Bus Lines (Samford)
- Caboolture Bus Lines (Caboolture, Bribie Island)
- Christensenâs Bus and Coach (Kilcoy)
- Clarks Logan City Bus Service (Logan)
- Haidleys Panoramic Coaches (Warwick)
- Kangaroo Bus Lines (Caboolture to Redcliffe)
