Level Crossing removal

Truck vs OHLE at Strathpine this morning, looks like we’re already recovering from delays.

Goes to show - the main argument for closing some LXs is the occasional impact of incidents on the rail network.

A pity that curve can’t be removed. Based on the Google Maps satellite pictures, there doesn’t appear to be anything of particularly great value in that area, and I imagine most of the businesses could be relocated elsewhere.

I think safety is also a consideration, e.g. Lindum. That is a mess that needs sorting.

Just for something different, here’s an LX that should be closed outside of heritage operations… by building a completely different rail line!

Looks like the Cavendish Road level crossing removal is advancing @ Coorparoo

https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/projects/coorparoo-level-crossing-precinct-planning

Says nothing about “removal" . This could go the way of Lindum and Banyo and they just ““““upgrade”””” the level crossing….

Grade separation is mentioned - just!

The study will investigate a range of available options, including intersection upgrades, pedestrian and cycle improvements, traffic management treatments and other network planning changes, and grade separating road from rail.

Unless the solution for grade separation at Cavendish road can easily or inherently include Stanley St East crossing too (e.g. elevated rail over road continuing to Norman Park), then I’d think it should be closed. Traffic can go via Norman Park under the rail easily.

I realise it’s inevitable, but what’s the plan for 210/211 when the Stanley St East LX closes? No right turn from Temple St into Cavendish Rd. Going via Crown/Canara/Tiber Sts leaves a pretty big chunk of people in the area around Easts Rugby without a bus service.

Question I have is why do these routes not just stick to Crown St and Macrossan Ave already? These are the main road through area! I assume some 400m coverage rule but they should just stick to main road.

Claiming this small change leaves people without a bus services is OTT.

Stanley St E is a dangerous rat run and a dangerous intersection with Tibet St.

Suddenly, the walk to the bus stop for some people doubles (or more) from 400 m to 800+ m. The standard is 400 m.

Maybe some thought should be put into a safe crossing from Halifax St to Tiber St.

I think it should be rail over road for this one. (elevated rail with a new station and direct bus access underneath.)

Will raise it in the Working Commitee chat and try and get a MR out for this one.

The 400m policy (aka coverage before frequency) has been a disaster and ends up with wondering lost bus routes and bus stops that are literally 100m apart! 800m walking distance to improved station -like stops is a far better outcome.

Rail over road is perfect here but Stanley Street east should be blocked off from Tiber St to stop rat running.

The bus stop on Bennetts Rd should be relocated to Adinda & Crown Street intersection so it’s an easier walk to station.

Bus stop on Tiber st itself should be removed as it’s super dangerous to access as a pedestrian.

That would great!

As for 210/211, removal of the Cavendish LX would allow for the Temple and Clarence St intersections with Cav Rd to be aligned to a regular cross roads signalised intersection. So 210/211 could easily go via here including stops at Coorparoo station. So no one is losing access and the routes actually gain direct access to the train.

“We are getting on with removing the level crossing at Beams Road — another project Labor started but failed to finish — as well as five additional level crossing removals as part of the $5.7 billion Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail project,” he said. [Brent Mickelberg]

How is it a fair characterisation to say that they are ‘getting on with it’, when it was planned for, costed, and started under a different government. The only way that they ‘got on with it’ was not cancelling it like they did GCLR S4.

It shows they’re sensitive to the (fair) criticism that so far all they have to show for transport projects is continuing Labor’s plans or cancelling or substantially curtailing them to the detriment of good public transport planning. Nothing new on their watch yet.

LOL
how did Labor failed to finish the project if they are not in government to see it finished?
God, these guys are so disingenuous it hurts

I honestly put it down to Labor awarding the initial tenders for the Loganlea Station Relocation and Beenleigh Road LX removal that prevented the LNP from scrapping the LGCFR project. It does run through a number of red seats after all…

Don’t you think it worth mentioning about removing the Cavendish Road one as well with the preferred rail over road.

Oh, absolutely. Had these projects not be on tender, the LGCFR would be shelved, no doubt.

Congrats to @rowangray and the others responsible for this great coverage!

I disagree. Both sides know how important this project is to keeping up with population growth. It would have been a dumb decision to cancel it. How would that line of managed with Olympic traffic ?
