At Roma St and across the Merivale Bridge, the DG rail is already on the eastern side of the corridor. Then there’s an SG-only balloon loop around South Brisbane, and as it rejoins at Ernest St the DG rail is on the western side, as it continues to Acacia Ridge.
Now it really does need to be on the western (out) side passing South Bank station, so it has to stay like that (or we start using platform gap fillers on SB P3 for any narrow gauge train stopping there). At Boggo Rd I’d personally support moving platform 5 to the outside of the corridor anyway (as part of a general rebuild there to straighten the surface platforms), so it’s really only South Bank P3 that’s the problem with DG-on-the-inside.
But post CRR, South Bank and South Brisbane only need two platforms in use anyway, as there’s no longer a need to squirrel outbound Gold Coast services over to the DG for their express running… not there, anyway.
Wouldn’t putting the platform on the DG line cause a heap of conflicts for freight movements though. Or even for the XPT (or equivalent) service if it gets delayed. Imagine having QR inbound trains in the early am peak skipping the stations inwards of Moorooka because the XPT was delayed.
Unless you were thinking of having a DG on an Up line as well?
Tons of ActivUS utes (and I do mean TONS) around the rail corridor between Eden’s Landing and Bethania now.
EDIT 1: resumptions galore between Woodridge and Kingston. Trees gone, buildings demolished, space being made as I write this.
As a bonus: plenty of SEQuence utes doing work south of Beenleigh along the entire GC line. It would be downright diabolical if we get ETCS up and running before Shorncliffe gets it.
I dont know what you mean by Shorncliffe not getting it first. It is the pilot line for the system. It is not even going to be the full set up for it. It is now being used to test train crew amd controllers on the new safeworking system to ensure the training meets what will be needed for the new rules and system. It will have no functionality for infrastructure workers. Its not a plug and play system its a whole new way of not only running trains but for track staff to work on track as well.
