Maroon Glider KGS Skipped

Can someone remind me why the maroon glider bypasses KGS and stops at Queen St station. Just a random thing BCC decided made sense?

PS bus took 5mins to cross Victoria Bridge!! Mass Transport going well it seems!!

The 61 (and many other routes) were changed to skip KGS during the installation of new platform screen doors for the Metro vehicles. Some routes have moved back to KGS, but the 61 hasn’t changed, which I believe is because the new Brisbane bus network will have the 61 permanently service Queen Street Bus Station in both directions, so they don’t want it to revert to KGS only to once again move to QSBS.

I think this is a pretty poor outcome, given how slow it currently is for the 61 to do the loop through QSBS when heading towards Ashgrove.

We still don’t know which services will use the Adelaide Street tunnel and whether or not its only exclusivity used for their new electric bendy bus services.

61 is being paired with outbound BUZ stops for each direction.

From BNBN Map:

When travelling towards Coorparoo Square, Route 61 will service Roma Street busway station and City Hall/King George Square station to provide a connection to Route 222 Carindale to City.

When travelling towards Ashgrove, Route 61 will service Queen Street bus station and Roma Street busway station to provide a connection to Route 385 The Gap to City BUZ.

So loop will continue to occur northbound.

Thanks for the correction! Still not an optimal outcome to keep the loop imo, the 61 and 385 will anyways connect at Roma Street busway station, so I don’t see the point of stopping at Queen Street bus station.

it didn’t stop in either direction??

I agree it’s not great for legibility having the split stops by direction but combined frequency at a single stop where you know you have a bus every 5 min at peak does make PT simpler and more attractive.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of splitting services between City Hall/KGS and QSBS. I know that express services and the like do depart from different stops in the afternoon than they arrive at in the morning, but for a high frequency all day service like the Maroon Glider, I think it’s a bit jarring having it stop not just some distance apart, but across two separate Bus Stations, even for interchange purposes.

That said, I’ve never liked the idea of having a high visibility service like a City Glider confined to a below ground route - I think it defeats the purpose of it being a high visibility service.

True

Is there no longer a high frequency connection between Ashgrove and the CBD on this plan?

Just the CBD stops have changed but most want the glider leaving in both directions from city hall station.
