The best outcome for that section of Old Cleveland Road would be 24/7 bus lanes with priority at intersections. The issue, of course, is that this kind of project is much easier to water down (as per Northern Transitway). That doesn’t mean it’s not still the best option.
Whatever happens, it’s essential that the OCR corridor includes protected bike lanes to connect with the shared paths built with Stage 1.
In terms of space, there is around 6-8 lanes width worth of road between Orwell Street and Daniells St, including the median. If we think that’s not enough room for a busway (and protected bikeway), then we just don’t want it badly enough.
