On Thursday 3rd of July the 4:35pm, 5:35pm, 6:50pm, 8:05pm, 10:30pm and 11:45pm Southern Moreton Bay Island ferries towards Islands via Karragarra are cancelled due to staff availability. Check journey planner for other travel options. https://x.com/Translink_QLD/status/1940260913665151363
Walking past Bowen Hills station last night just before 11pm and saw a 301 picking up passengers, was surprisingly busy - probably 15-20 people on the bus, which I was surprised by considering it was late night on a Thursday Wednesday
Update: Buses will be temporarily missing Mater Hill, South Bank and Cultural Centre bus stations due to congestion from unplanned maintenance works on the SE Busway. Metro M1 & M2 services will continue to service these stations. https://x.com/Translink_QLD/status/1940765303895372171
I was leaving with South Bank last night 19:40 and at that point all routes were still running and there was 10 min delays as tunnel between South Bank and Mater Hill down to single lane with traffic control.
Update: Buses will temporarily miss Mater Hill, South Bank and Cultural Centre stations due to an issue with busway tunnel ventilation systems. M1 & M2 services will continue to service these stations. https://x.com/Translink_QLD/status/1940879203869540684
09:10. Minimal crowd at Buranda with a very high TransLink staff presence. I didn’t speak to any but they seemed to be warning people at the door of South Bank bound services.
I can imagine the capacity of the ‘metro’ buses to handle extra crowds would be fairly limited since they have a capacity of 170 people verses 950 for a train.
But I imagine there might be a fair few people that work in the Mater Hospital precinct as well.
The Ms do have a lower capacity, but they are running at 5 minute frequencies which might tip things in its favour - I feel it might be a case of how quick you get people over there, as opposed to how many you can carry there in one go.
The M1 I was on filled up quite a bit at Woolloongabba, but it still wasn’t jam packed.
I hear what you’re saying, but in terms of clearing up a backlog, if there are ‘metros’ running at 5 minute frequencies that is a capacity of up to 2040 people per hour. The Cleveland line through Buranda runs a peak frequency of 8 trains per hour, which is a capacity of approximately 7,600 per hour. Even the off peak weekday frequency of 4 trains per hour is over 1.5 times higher than the ‘metro’ capacity.
I’m not saying the high frequency of the service isn’t good or helpful, but rail will be much more capable of clearing a backlog from an out of commission busway. The two working in tandem will be even better!
