Not sure 15-minute all day services to Manly are viable at this point in time, as I don’t believe it has any crew facilities.

Need to get the Lota duplication and extra platforms built, but not sure when that will happen as other projects will be consuming available resources for a while (CRR, LGCFR, GCLRS3, DSCRL).

Good to know. I wonder why there are no crew facilities when there is stabling for a couple of trains at Manly?

It doesn’t drop off because students start driving… it drops off because students stop going in for all their classes!

Overcrowding on route 60 from Aldi Westend to Fortitude Valley. This happens every Saturday due to the West End Markets. They need to run more services between 9am and 3pm every Saturday to cope with the demand. They also need to upgrade the lights on Montague Road to allow bus priority turning right into Mollison street inbound.

Overcrowding on the 196 on Saturdays as well.

This is just on a regular Saturday. What are they going to do come the Olympics!!!???

Maybe upgrade the route to Brisbane Metro buses. I caught my first one today, and it’s a big bus.

Once that capacity is exhausted on the West End - Tenneriffe corridor, you have a case for LRT.

I mean, we originally considered a bunch of options for the 60 right?

Then ran it for almost a decade with regular buses before upgrading to artics

The humble bus can do a lot!

After reading your comment I had a look at the timetable and was surprised to find the 60 only runs every 15 minutes on a Saturday, I would have expected 10 minutes or less for such a consistently busy route.

I do have to say I have run into the exact same issue on the 196 on a weekend. It’s quite amazing how many people are in Teneriffe and New Farm on a weekend!

I’ve been on the 199 a few times on Saturday evening, too, and it’s the same, packed to the rafters between CC and Vulture St.

I’m not sure larger buses are the answer, either, considering some of the tight streets it has to negotiate.

It runs every 10 minutes until 6 pm, but I think that needs to continue until at least 7 or maybe 8.

There is a bit of a gap in the West End and New Farm bus network, believe it or not.

There’s definitely space for a new route along Boundary Rd and then along James Street to the Powerhouse.

Could be run using electric buses.

Not sure more routes is the answer…it is always the answer for BCC. Bus network confusing enough as it is?

They only need to increase the frequency to 10 mins or better from 9am - 3 pm to cater for the extra demand on Saturdays.

Could increasing the frequency of the 192 and extending it to Powerhouse be a solution?

Broken down train at Virginia - delaying trains on outbound mains.

Edit: subs too by the looks? Idk

Edit2: guard announcement that the train at Virginia broke down while on the points therefore blocking two tracks. It is now being pushed out of the way into Sunshine (by another train?) and soon we’ll have bidirectional service again.

Stuck at Albion, guard has said 15 minutes before we move again and has basically let people go and hang out on the platform. TransLink and QR saying 60 minute delay for us.

Anyone heading to Northgate has been told to get off and jump on a Shorncliffe service. Gonna be an interesting one!

Edit: Ended up being about 45-50 min delay, almost 2 hours on an NGR seat is not an enjoyable experience but QR handled it pretty well.

Queensland Rail shares dramatic footage of rail bridge strike

Ancedotal, but just in the past week I’ve noticed a large uptick in train patronage - back in Feb I was easily able to find a seat on the way to/from work (I reverse commute, so I head from the city out to the suburbs in the morning and back in the afternoon - no peak frequencies for me!). This past week though I’ve only been able to find a seat coming back from work once, and it’s generally been pretty packed on my once-every-30-mins train from Redcliffe to the city. All-day 15 minute frequencies anyone?

PT patronage and traffic always seems to spike in the lead up to Easter each year. Pretty calm on the Western front today though on both buses and trains in Brisbane.

Also Uni went back in March.

Schools & unis on holidays. I think there’s also an RDO for a lot of construction workers today. Some might be taking extra leave, considering it’s Easter this weekend. 10 consecutive days off, for the price of 3 AL days.
