Bit late in posting this, but last week I saw two NGRs with destos set to Bundaberg - one heading north from Bowen Hills, and the stopped on platform 10 at Roma St. I imagine these were probably just out of service or driver training runs, but I’m honestly surprised they have Bundaberg as an option at all
Routes 700 and 777 have been operating under a headway system over the last month or so instead of the typical timetable/checkpoint system.
This is due to the sheer impossibility of keeping a timetable while GCLR3 works are in place.
With the Ferny Grove track closure, the Nortgate to Roma Street services are being extended south to Beenleigh. You don’t often see a Beenleigh service show up at Toombul station!
First time seeing an NGR on a Beenleigh service! I have curiously seen an NGR on a Ferny Grove service once at Boggo Road. I was told that it was caused by an NGR replacing a malfunctioning train.
The same should be done with M1 and M2 in my opinion. Bunching is inevitable at high frequency, so it’s better to aim for consistency rather than on time running.
I’ve seen a few NGRs on the Beenleigh line due to Ferny Grove line closures. The 4:58 ex Doomben to Kuraby is an NGR fairly often, too.
Just on the 375 inbound from the Valley packed as and running 11 mins late. It actually got worse as people piled on at Valley Island and All Hallows stops.
Why can’t they run higher frequencies on event weekends ?
This is an example of the failure of the one seat to everywhere network design in BCC. The better question is why people aren’t transferring to a train at the Valley to take that to Milton. It’s because BCC has conditioned them to never transfer.
I wonder if having the driver announce transfer during special events could maybe help with this?
They should have internal PIDs for that with audio announcements. The new PIDs on route 60 and the free City and Spring Hill loops actually have them and transfer information already. Weekend frequency should be 20 mins or better for the 375 and 370 (soon to be renumbered).
20 minute frequency to connect with trains that run at either 30 minutes (most lines) or 15 minutes (Northgate to Darra & Park Rd). Do you see how that makes no sense?
The northern leg of the 375 shouldn’t even exist IMO. It largely duplicates the 379 and 370 (not to mention all the other buses running along Bowen Bridge Rd).
At the very least, if it must exist, have it go to Tennerife via Bowen Hills Station to provide a travel alternative other than duplicating half a dozen othe routes travelling to the CBD.
People are travelling to the CBD less, yet we still have a public transport system (I can’t really call it a network, because it barely is one) that assumes (almost) everyone is going to the CBD.
BCC/Translink are already running buses at 20 mins or better. I don’t agree rerouting the 375 to New Farm Ferry but I do with the 320 being rerouted to New Farm Ferry. Especially if the Gold Glider gets up and running, hopefully to Skygate not to just Hamilton Northshore
20 mins or better will improve transfers at stations especially Fortitude Valley and Roma Street where the 375 currently services
20 minutes will not improve transfers on a rail network where frequency is 15 or 30. It will make them worse! 15 minutes would good, but 20 minutes will be worse than 30.
^^Whatever
Looks like QR/Translink are adding 2 stops to inbound and outbound peak express services on the Cleveland Line as per an email I just got.
Good morning,
On Monday 19 May, there will be minor changes to weekday timetables and services on the Cleveland line. These include:
- peak hour express trains will make additional stops at Murarrie and Cannon Hill stations.
- five new morning peak trips towards Manly station.
- four new afternoon peak trips toward Brisbane City
- changed stopping patterns between Morningside and Manly
- minor timetable changes – trains may depart two minutes earlier or later than previously.
We encourage you to retime your journey and plan your travel.
Visit translink.com.au to plan your journey and for more information or please see station staff at an attended station.
Kind regards,
Queensland Rail - Community Engagement team.
Did some playing around in the timetable and indeed, it looks like AM peak inbound and PM peak outbound express services will both now stop at Murarrie and Cannon Hill for the forseeable future. Would be interested to know why, if it’s due to passenger demand at those stations or if they’re trying to improve reliability by adjusting the timetable and stopping pattern slightly.
Also interesting is increased contra-flow services in the morning and afternoon, was there really demand for that or do they just need to run extra services out to Manly/Cannon Hill/Cleveland to form inbound peak services?
Well that’s good news for the Cleveland line. Hurrah for the extra contra peak services. This is something we have pushed for for many years. Let’s hope these changes do result in more reliability and less service disruptions due to ’ congestion on the Cleveland line '.
Sounds like next Monday is going to be a big day. As well as Cleveland, Ferny Grove is also getting some contra flow services (it’s also the opening date of the SE Busway extension to Springwood):

Plan you travel
To make the most of the new Sunday timetable, simply plan your travel from Sunday 1 June (coming soon).
Printable timetables (PDFs) will be available closer to Sunday 1 June.
A welcome step in the right direction. Even though there are MANY more to go, it’s definitely worth celebrating any progress.
Even though it’s a long journey time for those in the Redlands area, I actually think it would be more beneficial for the most people to make all Cleveland line services all stations in peak. This would increase reliability, and would also allow Wynnum Central, Wynnum, Wynnum North, Lindum and Hemmant stations to have higher frequency peak services.
While there is some substantial commercial redevelopment happening/planned for the riverfront industrial sites in Murrarie, I think it would be more a capacity and/or reliability-related change more than anything.
Hopefully this is just the first step and we start seeing more of these little improvements over the course of the year. Even if QR don’t have the rollingstock or capacity for extra peak services on all lines, more off peak services would be a fantastic improvement.
They should have plenty of data now that 50c fares has been going for a while, and I imagine now is as good a time as ever to start trialling service improvements which can then be used to inform how the new timetable is planned to operate post-CRR.
It always pains me a bit when I’m heading into the city on a weekend and the stabling yard at Elimbah is full of trains as my 90-minutely service zips past.
