Labor has released a Transport Issues Paper titled **Slow lane: A State of Congestion**. Leave your thoughts and analysis in the replies below.

As with any paper released by a political party, it’s worth examining the underlying data and assumptions carefully, and independently verifying claims where possible.

> [@TRANSPORT ISSUES PAPER PAGE 5](#):
>
> # Foreword
>
> Queensland continues to take the top gong on transport, but now for all the wrong reasons.
>
> Our fuel spikes to most expensive in the country, and drivers are losing weeks sat idling in traffic, day in, day out. That’s bad for them, bad for productivity, bad for the economy and bad for the environment.
>
> Yet it seems the problem will only get worse under an LNP Government that continues to make decisions that delay investment, stall construction and condemn Queenslanders to a generation of congestion.
>
> Major infrastructure projects have been pushed onto the back-burner, despite direct promises from the Premier, and their own planning documents identifying the significant need for more network capacity.
>
> So where to from here?
>
> Queenslanders should not be disadvantaged by distance, reliability or a government that doesn’t deliver equitable transport.
>
> Whether travelling to work, school, university, the shopping centre, or just around the corner, you should have safe access to reliable transport that’s there when you need it. Queenslanders should have a government that continues to invest in all modes of transport, from new active transport corridors, to more resilient roads, better bus connections and faster rail routes.
>
> No one should see their life go by from behind the steering wheel amidst a sea of standstill traffic.
>
> Queensland needs a transport network that works, not just for some, but for all. One that isn’t solely built of bricks, bridge beams and concrete, but rather of connections to communities near and far.

Overall it does seem to provide a good summary – albeit with loaded language – on the state of announced projects, however, other than the implied reversal of project cuts, there is no actual discussions on what should be done instead.

BTQ should just ask them if they want to cancel Gympie Road Tunnel project - Yes or No, and that will tell you the answer 🙂

I read the paper.

It is a politically loaded “grievance piece” and data/contact harvesting excercise.

Remember, political parties have a special exemption in the Privacy Act when using your information. They can legally spam you.

They WANT Gympie Road tunnel… BCR 0.2 (its probably gotten even worse now).

“$335 was budgeted towards planning, business case development and pre-construction investigations”.

Yes, and the project was estimated to cost $12b (likely gone up by now, and given the rule of thumb to 2x the cost of any initial QLD Government major transport cost estimate, the actual likely cost is more like $24b…)

0.335 / 12 billion = ~ 2.8 percent of the project cost.

Remember how QIC and the private sector were going to fund the tunnel and it wasn’t going to cost anything? Obviously they dropped that idea when they saw BCR = 0.2 and there was no way to make a profit from the project.

Is there any substantial reason that 24x7 bus lanes couldn’t be implemented on Gympie Rd within 6 months? This seems like a reasonable interim solution, along with artics on 333 and 330.

I guess the other thing is whether there’s depot space at Virginia for artics. Does TfB need to search for a new depot location?
