If you trace it out on the satellite images, accounting for the section that is already dual tracked (and what looks like a locomotive-sized storage bit right near the level crossing), the amount of track to be duplicated looks closer to 800-900m, plus points/cross-over reconfiguration. That seems like even more of an indictment on successive governments not to just get it done.
I remember someone else saying that the second track through Shorncliffe isn’t even on RCS signaling and is still on manual/trackside points (if I’m interpreting what was said correctly), which presumably is under local control. If that’s the case, good luck convincing anyone with decision-making power that the points and signaling should be modernised in the absence of duplication or at least an actual platform for the second track.
It’s not really an inquiry. I wrote to the Department, they de-scoped it during the LNP Government coming in and informed me it was due to budget considerations. The bike cage instead of bike boxes was removed, an additional accessibility ramp was removed and a wombat crossing across the kiss and ride / carpark was removed. When I spoke to a QR staff off the record about it they said ‘QR are to focus on core deliverables, BCC are responsible for how people get to the stations’
Why? I use Shorncliffe every week, it ran perfectly fine with 15 minute services for years. It’s never been a problem. It just can’t get up to 8 minutes in future without duplication. Ah sorry just saw the earlier post, yeh sure, that’s from 2009, the crews and schedulers have been running Sandgate / Shorncliffe fine. Anything for faster turnaround in future, yeh it’s duplication. But I wouldn’t discount it because the area is quiet, as much as Sandgate is the hub, Shorncliffe morning peak is busier than other stations on the line due to St Patricks College. Also if the Sandgate BCC renewal pushes higher density in Sandgate, that will certainly drive it.
The C-M appears to be holding the Minister somewhat accountable regarding the current situation, but only somewhat.
I don’t think Shorncliffe commuters would be especially surprised by 30-minute services, though—they’ve been experiencing them for months when they transferred from the bus to the train at Sandgate.
Interesting that the
Interesting that the article mentioned Doomben and Rosewood being 30-minute services, which is the regular frequency, but didn’t mention the lack of through services (i.e. there’s usually a few through peak services to/from Rosewood, and all Doomben services are terminating at Eagle Junction).
They also didn’t mention the Beenleigh line frequency being cut to 30 minutes.
We aren’t surprised, the 30 minutes have been applied to the entire line and we still have weekly closures after 745 that are lately sometimes cancelled last minute or weekend closures that are likely cancelled the day before due to the work crew shortages lately.
Aurora Cambell FTW!!! Definitly the most detailed, least coorporatey artwork among all the options. Although the depiction of the Boondall Wetlands would make it more suitable for Boondall station instead.
I voted Aurora. She was robbed on the last design competition for Buranda, but I can see why. The Australiana and bright pool paraphernalia by Yannick was popular, but it will look a bit kitsch over time.
