So I think we should revisit the concept of a Western Bypass Tunnel?

Yeah because the terrain sucks

You mis-understand, the inner-western tunnel is an absolute necessity….imagine the traffic that uses the “Gateway”, still rumbling through everyday suburban streets, well welcome to the reality of the current inner-Western road corridor! Brisbane needs an inner Western road bypass - and for that matter, an outer-Western bypass as well [but that’s another topic]. There’s no choice now, but tunnel it for the inner-Western!

The key, is put in RAIL capacity as well!

100% on the money with this

Can you imagine the difference in the whole region if they’d included rail components on the Gateway, Centenary and Logan Motorways as well as building the South East Busway as a rail line to Beenleigh? Plus when they built the Airport Link tunnel incorporating a rail component to Chermside?

It’s hard to even comprehend.

The whole point is that heavy trucks don’t go through the western suburbs between north and south because they use the Gateway and possibly Logan motorways. Imagine actually encouraging that kind of traffic in the western suburbs by building a car-brained 1950s freeway through those lovely parts of town. Madness.

If you want a train around the western perimeter (doesn’t make much sense to me), then just build the train.

I’m sorry, but this terrible proposal belongs on i-love-induced-traffic.com and not here.

Disappointed that isn’t a real website. :sob:

And the Logan and gateway is clogged already and it’s a massive detour, if your a truckie you might as well go through western and northern suburbs roads or fight the ICB.

Tbh. Its the missing link and probs the last we need ti complete the orbital triangle at motorway grade

Esp those go north/west

I would like to know where all the cars heading inbound on the Western Freeway go? Do they go toward the inner city on Legacy Way or Milton Rd to head north or battle the hilly route 20 to head north?

Doesnt need to be one massive tunnel from Darra to Carseldine because that just wont happen. The 10km bit in the middle from Mt Cootha to Alderly / Everton park is the missing link. No overland route so tunnel is the only option.

I agree, the Gateway is too much of a detour. It has its own upgrades and serves its purpose.

Except if you’re in a heavy truck you’re not allowed to and nor should you. I simply don’t understand why every part of every city has to have land given over to heavy freight.

Just a quick question… My understanding is that the group is called Better Transport Qld but I’m unsure how much conversation focuses on Qld outside SEQ?

The majority of transport related infrastructure and spending is within SEQ, so it’s only natural that discussions will largely focus on the region. Add to this the fact that most users of the forum also reside within SEQ.

Discussions do often occur on topics related to broader Queensland though.

Could an upgraded Brisbane Valley Highway/D’aguilar Highway meet the needs of a western Brisbane bypass? It wouldn’t require extensive tunnelling, and would probably be far cheaper than building an urban freeway.

Not sure it would contribute much to public transport, though, unless Translink decides to run the 529 and the 896 more often.

Now, here’s a novel idea—either extend the 529 to Kilcoy, or the 896 to Toogoolawah, so that travel between the two towns becomes possible!

The problem with these routes is that they are pretty indirect, particularly the BVH being west of the two lakes and the Dag joining the Bruce at Caboolture, which is a long way south of Woodford if you want to head towards/from the Sunshine Coast.

The alternative roads east of Wivenhoe / through Somerset Village / via Peachester aren’t suitable for heavy vehicles and would be prohibitive to upgrade. If people are talking about the Logan / Gateway being a long way around, this is something else entirely.

Not that I don’t think the BVH and Dag deserve some proper upgrades and more overtaking zones of course.

What’s wrong with heavy freight

Yeah why aren’t we talking about Townsville
