I think there’s more chance of getting horse racing banned altogether than there is of getting the Queensland Racing Club to part with Eagle Farm racecourse for a reasonable price while it’s still profitable to them.
Personally I don’t care for animal racing, so I don’t mind if it becomes collateral damage in order to turn such prime transport-proximate land into a big TOD.
Since BCC loves buses and “claiming they are better economic managers” so much, they should convert KSD to at least a T3 (including Ann and Wickham Streets) and run their not-a-metro there instead of wasting money investigating whether to convert the Doomben line tbh.
I am a local and nothing pisses me off more than getting the city glider stuck on traffic on Ann Street while at some parts of it there are TWO ridiculous parking lanes.
Is there a reason you’d need to rebuild Doomben for the two platforms? From what I understand there are already 2 platforms at the current station, and it’d certainly be a lot cheaper to reuse that
My reasoning was that eliminates the use of a level crossing other than for the odd freight service, and it also brings the station closer to more housing which increases the walk up catchment.
Having said that, if I had to choose to keep Doomben station where it is in order to get the improvements then I’d be willing to make that sacrifice.
Platform 2 is totally serviceable as far as I am aware, but I do believe the points are locally controlled from the signal box above the station, so it needs to be manned for P2 to be used.
(The third track in the circa 2010 image that branches to the now-dismantled Hamilton Cold Stores appears to have been completely removed.)
I have concerns whether a Skygate extension may stretch the Gold Glider a little bit too far. It’s already a fairly long route that will battle areas of substantial traffic.
Skygate is the ideal terminus for the Gold Glider.
Re: Traffic would be minimal because of the chosen route via St Paul’s Tce and Abbotsford Road. The traffic loads from Hamilton North Shore to Skygate are also minimal.
I don’t support the Gold Glider using Nudgee Road though.
I have been thinking about this. There have been some fair points raised on here that outside of shopping hours, there’s nothing there and it might be too far for a bus route.
Perhaps IF it was to run to Skygate, the option could be it runs during opening hours of what is there, and outside of those hours (late night etc) it could terminate at Doomben.
Plenty of bigger priorities on the network than a 24 hour Woollies surrounded by swamp and warehouses.
Let’s focus on something genuinely useful, like running Sunday buses to places that don’t have them, instead of marginal use cases like this that are perpetual hobbyhorses without a skerrick of analysis behind them.
