Great to see some investment in Townsville.
This also means that the span of hours for public transport connection to Townsville Airport is better than that of Brisbane Airport which is absolutely wild. More of a reflection on Brisbaneâs service level than anything else, but 4am to 11pm is really impressive for a regional bus service.
Absolutely, the all-day hourly frequency is a bit of a mixed bag but the hours are very impressive. I wonder if theyâve just gone âalright, letâs just get a bus going whenever thereâs flightsâ. If nothing else this shows that itâs possible if the political will is there!
So itâs official, Townsville now has an airport public transport service with a longer span of hours than Brisbaneâs!
A win for Townsville.
Now we need to push for a bus service to Cairns Airport as well as a buy back of Airtrain and Metro to Brisbane Airport, and Light Rail (and eventually also heavy rail) to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast Airports.
As tempting as it was to try it out, it was too hard to justify the extra 20 min wait when I already had family doing an airport run for others.
From what I could see there was one passenger waiting for the 22:30 trip.
Stop was well signed, physically close to the terminal but far from prime position.
Passed it on the road in and it seemed to be maybe 2-3 min late heading towards the airport. See if it lines up for the trip home.
Thanks for the report and pics! In my opinion even if itâs not always busy or even the most convenient option, itâs still such an important service to run.
I have no sympathy for this business. In fact, shame on the ABC for running this biased sob story instead of focusing on what a major win for the public it is to pay 50c for their journey instead of $12.
I was on my flight back to Brisbane via Doha last Saturday and I was seated next to an australian schoolgirl coming home from a student exchange in Germany, it was a long flight and we talked a bit and she mentioned she was heading back to Townsville after Brisbane and about the bus network in townsville, I mentioned the new airport bus and it turned out she hadnât heard, safe to say she was very when she heard that it was now available, I think it goes to show how sorely needed this route was, especially for demographics like teenagers that generally do not have access to a car to drive.
