Considering the rapid growth of the Yarrabilba area combined with southern parts of Logan such as Marsden and Browns Plains as well as southern Brisbane City suburbs like Calamvale and Forest Lake having poor access to the rail network, I am proposing a 31.45km rail link, branching off from the Springfield line south of Richlands. This new line would have a total of 8 new stations:

1. Forest Lake
2. Heathwood
3. Calamvale
4. Marsden West
5. Heritage Park
6. Koplick Road
7. Logan Village
8. Yarrabilba.

Considering lack of capacity along the Salisbury - Dutton Park Corridor especially post CRR and the greater need to service Yarrabilba and other growing suburbs, I have decided to pair the alignment with the Western Lines (T1 Ipswich and T2 Springfield), to take advantage of existing quad tracking between Darra and Milton.

Considering it’s already roughly 19.5km from the city to Richlands by rail and this line would branch off 2.8km south of Richlands, the overall distance from the city to Yarrabilba would be about 53.75km. For comparison the Caboolture is about 45km from the city and Beenleigh is about 40km.

This new line would be served by T3 services with some services going beyond the city to Doomben. Estimated Journey time from Central to Yarrabilba would take about 70-80 minutes if services were to remain stopping all stations or about an hour if an express service was implemented.

1. Can it pair with Doomben

2. Heathwood should be interchange with Beaudesert line

3. consider extend to Tambourine (recreation hotspot) onto Goldie?

If this gets built then the Salisbury - Beaudesert corridor would likely not get built or would end up vastly different.

I would envision this link to be delivered in two stages. The first stage to Calamvale or potentially Marsden, with the rest of the line to Yarrabilba being delivered under the second stage. As much as I would want to build the line all at once, that’s just not feasible without a lot of work and sticking to a heavily scrutinised budget. Building it all at once would also result in a few logistical hurdles as you would need a larger construction and project management team on the project and the larger a project is, the longer it takes to plan and the more likely it is to be overbudget, behind schedule and has a greater chance of being scaled down, scrapped or altered for short term political gain and possibly ideological or fiscal reasons.

How about we get the 587 running every 30 minutes all day, and every 15 minutes during peak, and have services after 7 pm, before we have a dream about building a railway?
