2020-07-23: Where Is The Gold Cityglider?

Announced over 3 years ago, Brisbane’s new Gold Cityglider is nowhere to be found. First funded in the 2023 BCC budget, the high-frequency route is proposed to run between the rapidly growing areas of Woolloongabba and Northshore Hamilton, via the CBD, Fortitude Valley, and Bowen Hills. Speaking to the Village Voice in 2025, the member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls confirmed that the service was “still on track”, but was unable to provide a timeline for the beginning of service.

BTQ has serious concerns about the length of time being taken to begin this promised service. During the same period that the Gold Cityglider has sat in limbo, stage 1 of the Coomera Connector motorway progressed from the start of construction to being open to traffic. BTQ does not believe that it should take longer to plan a single bus route than to build 16km of brand new motorway. We call on the state government to rapidly begin service on this crucial route, and to prioritise people over more roads, more traffic, and more congestion.
