Personally, I disagree. The concept behind the Coomera Connector I feel is a sound one - there is no full local road alternative between Beenleigh and Nerang. You don’t have a complete highway access road, or parallel corridors like Logan Road, Ipswich Road or Rochedale Road - if you need to get from inland north Gold Coast to inland south Gold Coast by road, you pretty well have to use the M1 (noting that using PT is not the answer for everyone).
My biggest issue with the CC was that it did not have to be built to full highway standard. That whole “Second M1” terminology was a mistake. It could have been something more equivalent to Logan Road or Bermuda Street and still served the purpose.
The annoying thing is, if they don’t connect it back up to the M1 properly at the northern end of the alignment, they will have spent all this money for a road that doesn’t completely fulfil its purpose.
