2032 - Brisbane Olympics

The stadium location has been settled now, which is very good because it kept changing location.

An additional train station at Spring Hill would be reasonably easy to add at low cost and help disperse crowds. It would also reduce pressure on Exhibition platform space on heavy event days.

It would also benefit Spring Hill to have a train station open all year around.

Yes, I do agree it’s good that the location has been settled, though I’m still no less disappointed by the choice made. Only my hopeless hoping.

Sorry, I assumed you were talking about cities with established parklands , not those that built outward with no concern for town planning.

Ah yeah I can see how my post wasn’t particularly clear.

There’s probably some examples (I’ve heard Detroit and Winnipeg mentioned before but I’ve never looked into it). But I’d imagine there’s no true examples of this happening, because it’s an absolutely insane thing to do.

Keep the entertainment centre for more local events is what I’m saying. Doesn’t have to host all the big events.

Boondall entertainment center is more of a recreation hub area with several clubs in the surrounds. Should they trim down on attendence seats/parking lots, im sure theres a. Plan to be more suited for recreation use like wedding etc

As per what I just posted to the SEQTA discord;

Government has ruled out a new train station to service Vic Park. They’re considering upgrades to Exhibition but it’s unclear as of yet.

My issue with this is that the walk will be awful enough for able-bodied people — i’m not sure how possible it will be for disabled people.

Yes, far from ideal. I still think it is worth raising the possibility of an events station, three platform.

The walk isn’t that bad. I have to walk 3km to my local station every weekday and it not that far. My main issue is that a stadium will put pressure on Exhibition Station and the Metro/Busway stops which could cause a crowd crush if not managed properly. Hence we need another station to relieve it. But as for the distance, well seriously, the walk isn’t that far!.

We should have never bidded for those damn games!. No one asked for them.

What about someone in a wheelchair and or on a 35 degree humid day? All of this while packed in with tons of people.

While you’re right that 1km isn’t a problem for everyone, I personally have to walk 1.4km to my hourly bus or 2.3km to my half-hourly one. It’s still a significant barrier for some and I’m fortunate to be able to walk that distance. Many would prefer to drive and some days it’s a legitimate barrier to transport for even me.

Build it where the train clean facility building thing is. You already have a foot bridge there too.

I say we cancel the games honestly. That would have been my review. Problem is, it’s too late now. Should of pulled out when we had the chance though.

My preferred exit option would’ve been for Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane to share the 2032 Olympics.

I fear we’re going to see a repeat of Cultural Center from Riverfire earlier this year at these games. The only logical fix is to install a flat ramped path between the stadium and Exhibition Station and Herston M2 station with shade coverings at various points along the path.

Also, is exhibition remaining Exhibition for the station name if it is also serving the Victoria Park stadium to not confuse tourists call the stop Victoria Park?

Another exit option is to let L.A. host them for the next three games. (2028, 2032, 2036) instead.

If you ever want to see Brisbane host another major event in our lifetime, this is simply not an option.

Remember the blowback on Melbourne for ditching the Commonwealth Games? This would be orders of magnitude worse.

With regards to PWD access to the new stadium, don’t stadiums generally offer some on site PWD parking and/or set down areas specifically for PWD use? IIRC Suncorp has such parking, although for big events these spaces are offered through a ballot, as well as a number of PWD vehicle set down areas around the venue.

What about Perth and Adelaide. They could also host some events too.

Make it an Australia games.

We don’t need a major event. We need a livable city.

What we needed was competent leadership for the games. COMSEQ had a detailed legacy first plan for a regional Olympic Games, backed by years of detailed studies for the sporting, accommodation, transport and ancillary infrastructure that would be required. They had full recommendation sets that said we should only bid if we commit to doing X Y Z actions.

There has never been the full commitment to doing the necessary steps to make the Olympics work.

And now its too late to do anything that isn’t already programmed.
