Not so easy to upgrade every single station in sector 1 to longer platforms though.
They could easily have doors that lock when not on the platform similar to Traveston tbh.
Itās not off the table.
I simply donāt see that as being achieveable by 2032, especially as we have a locked in orderbook for 6 car QTMP trains.
Agreed. NGRs would have to be reconfigured as well. Plus the stations. Six car will be the trains for some time I expect.
Presumably you could string three IMU/SMUs together, but it seems very difficult to make it all work before 2032.
Anticipated Games time transport modes include approx. 42% by rail (32% Exhibition Station), 39% by bus (18% Busway, 19% Transport Mall, 2% Local Buses), 17% taxi/rideshare and active travel.
Anticipated legacy event transport modes include approx. 35% by rail (25% Exhibition Station), 40% by bus (30% Bus Shuttles, 10% Busway Services), 15% taxi/rideshare and 8% active travel.
Anyone know what a āTransport Mallā is?
Are they making up words now?
Still getting used to this forum the layout is quite unintuitive, Anyways
Could someone firstly give a TDLR of why they want to shutdown exhibition station. I understand it has somethings to do with not being structurally able to handle an athletes villages (I could be wrong.) The thing that blows my mind is that if the station canāt even handle accommodation foot traffic of the Olympic village how is it supposed to handle the foot traffic of a FLIPPING MASSIVE STADIUM being the closest to Victoria park! Thatās why we need IMHO a station for Victoria park which shouldāve been planned way before they broke dirt at Victoria park!!! Exhibition station Is a great idea and I would like it to be running NOW but this poor planning is ridiculous and they want to get rid of a newly built station OMFG. Is they anyways they can keep exhibition because if that got rid of it it would be a waste of tax payer money for a nice looking station that will have uses well beyond the Olympics?!?!?
Pretty sure exhibition needs to be adjusted in terms of amnenties and crowd controls to be open more as i think currently it was accessible from one side, 2 only if rna is open
Not at all.
A Transport Mall is a dedicated, temporary transit hub established at Olympic venues and the Athletesā Village. It serves as the primary centralized arrival and departure point where buses, shuttles, and transport fleets connect athletes, media, and officials to various event locations.
Here is a map of the Athletes Village at the London Olympics, with the Transport Mall location marked.
The issue that is being raised is that Exhibition Station being so close to the Athletes Village results in potential safety and security issues. The Athletes Village is not a public venue but a secure compound, so having the main public rail access to the stadium there puts it inside the villageās security overlay, which needs to be addressed adequately.
Also, Exhibition was designed to accommodate Ekka crowds, but not Olympic crowds which are an order of magnitude larger. The issues that come with this larger amount of people will need to be catered for.
I donāt think Exhibition will be shutdown or demolished, just that it will need to be beefed up to better serve as an Olympics Station.
yeah, it looks like it was a real thing looks Called the The Northern Spectator Transport Mall (NSTM)
Basically I think itās a bunch of dedicated paved parking lots or unused paved spaces that could be used and transformed into a temporary transport hub/station for the Olympics powered by private coaches. The trick though would be finding lots of unused paved spaces/lots in Brisbane for this Transport Mall (temporary bus station hub/s) to go.
My thought is that they might use Gregory Terrace as the Transport Mall - one station down at the showgrounds for athletes and officials, and another one down towards Brisbane Girls Grammar for Spectators.
Aw yeah, Brisbaneās favourite thing - BUSES!
The fifth page in this pdf has a map, better picture of what these transport malls look like.
Only issue is with Brisbane car obsessed city I fear their would be no empty lots available or large enough. Even then I feel most would rather drive in and walk further than park and ride.
You can see on the northern side that needs to be adjysted to accomodate stadium crowds
Edit: where in the areacwill be athletics village?
Street names if any please?
OāConnell Terrace running parallel to the bottom of the image, with Brookes Street running up to the left. The building to the right of the rail corridor is the Large Animal Pavilion during Ekka.
Interesting view point:
Why Brisbaneās 2032 Olympic transport master plan just collapsed into ābroken promisesā
Well, we have The Wave in fairness, I guess
