I think we will find much more extensive changes to the PDA - like the overall PDA area being shrunk down extensively.
I think it is very possible that the PDA is reduced to only the Go Print site and the current Gabba Stadium only - everything outside of that is excluded. The reduced PDA area could also end up “gifted” to whichever proponent ends up getting the Brisbane Arena project - there has reportedly been 200 expressions of interest made on the site to date.
It would be an absolute tragedy to have the CRR station essentially surrounded by low-medium density housing. “What housing crisis? We released some land between Ipswich and Gatton. What you complaining about!!!”
There was mention on Brisbanetimes today that an agreement with the Federal Government on funding for 2032 will be reached soon. It is now approaching the end of FY 24-25 and we are still going around in circles.
It is becoming a worry. I don’t know if there are enough construction resources to handle all the rail projects concurrently let alone the various venues etc. Just consider the rail:
Finish off CRR - including stations.
K2B - Kuraby to Beenleigh track amplification with 5 LX removals.
Boundary Road (Coopers Plains) LX removal
DSCL - Beerwah to Birtinya
B2B - Beerburrum to Beerwah track amplification
ETCS
QTMP
GC Light Rail
Probably more I have missed.
With the exception of St Louise back in 1904 every other host city since either had a light rail/tram or a subway system, sometimes both in operation when they hosted the Olympics. Athens had none in 1900 but had both by 2004.
Brisbane has neither - we are the 21st century St Louise of the Olympic world. The GC doesn’t count in this context as host city.
With this in mind how does Queensland? [Brisbane] obtain this ‘major mode shift’ and what does it look like, for the Olympics?
Need to boost frequency of both rail and buses, then focus more on a proper connected network, more non radial routes and so forth. We need to use the infrastructure properly.
A new Olympic Park train station will be built alongside Brisbane’s 63,000-seat Games stadium at the southern end of Victoria Park, leaked government documents indicate.
