Well, isn’t that our idea?
Yep we’ve been talking about a location for one for over a year and we pretty much got it right.
I suspect it will be an event only station or may be used as a layover station.
Are there images in the article? I don’t subscribe.
Good outcome!
I’m guessing there’s a fair chance this will be an events only station, but I also think it would be good if it was an everyday station with pedestrian access to QUT and Spring Hill.
I hope it isn’t event only. There’s plenty of destinations nearby which aren’t the future stadium.
They could as a peak layover station.
Agreed. And it would create opportunities to increase density in that part of Spring Hill.
If the station is where that dodgy map indicates, it would place it basically where the train wash is currently, next to the land bridge.
Could call it “Spring Hill station”, or “Gregory Terrace” station, if it doesn’t get the obvious “barrambin”, “Victoria Park”, “stadium”, “Olympic” etc. titles
I see no reason why it couldn’t be a permanent station. You’d be basically guaranteed daily patronage considering how close St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace is.
That pretty much exactly where we were suggesting in the forum.
Brisbanetimes: New train station suggested, as location for Victoria Park stadium revealed
… A [commercial-in-confidence dossier] by Queensland Rail, not released publicly, apparently shows the stadium will be built at Victoria Park over the waterhole at the end of Gilchrist Avenue, adjacent to the existing pedestrian bridge.
A warm-up athletics track would be at the eastern end of the park, next to the busway station, with a second pedestrian bridge built over the Inner City Bypass to link the stadium with the new National Aquatic Centre.
The report said Queensland Rail proposed a new three-platform train station to be built at the site of the rollingstock wash facility next to the Inner City Bypass. …
All those peak Roma Street terminators can become Olympic Park terminators.
Hopefully they do what they did in Sydney and allow the train to board from one platform while simultaneously deboarding on the other by having 1 track to 2 platforms.
When an event isnt on, you can just close the outer platforms leaving one island platform (or viceversa).
Wouldn’t they be Exhibition terminators anyway if they are travelling via CRR?
Thanks Bob
Apparently they plan to have 3 platforms
I speculate the three platform thing is likely to have one platform on the Ekka loop track, and two platforms on the CRR tracks.
That way you can run the Ekka loop service to catch passengers from Central/FV to the stadium, as well as the through running CRR services
I don’t think they will use the CRR tracks just the additional tracks they have there. Sector 1 passengers would need to interchange at Roma Street for an Olympic Park service or walk from the Ekka station.
If land bridge is where station will be, theyll need to move the train wash platform elsewhere then.
At least they can save $$$ on the overpass lol.
That train wash can go to the Maynes Yard or elsewhere.
