FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Better Transport Queensland has welcomed the introduction of Sunday and public holiday service on the Doomben line commencing today, as well as the new counter-peak services on the Cleveland and Ferny Grove lines which commenced on May 19th.
“Counter–peak service is a great way to use trains which are already on the tracks”, said Alex Jago, BTQ Secretary.
“We hope that the Government and Queensland Rail will look into extending this reform to other lines as well. More counter-peak service would benefit commuters to employment centres such as Strathpine-Brendale, Virginia-Geebung, Coopers Plains and Richlands.”
“We also welcome the Doomben line improvements. Plenty of people need to travel on Sundays and public holidays, and the reasons to take the train are the same as any other day and any other train line!”
“These upgrades, while welcome, highlight a need to further improve off-peak service on the rail network generally,” Jago concluded.
“Increased off-peak service requires no new infrastructure — just the willingness to make the most of what we already have. In exchange, public transport becomes a viable option for many more people at all times of the day.”
