This woud’ve been amazing if it had been built.

The Northern Transitway, while welcome, is a bit of a disappointment IMO.
I’m not even sure it could accomodate the Metro buses?

Plus, the Northern Transitway does very little to help public transport to The Prince Charles Hospital, which is a major activity hub currently in full expansion mode.

If they are considering building a motorway tunnel under Gympie Road, then they should consider building a median busway on Gympie Road as well. Since they expect most of the traffic to be diverted through the tunnel, the busway would be a good use of the freed up space on Gympie Road.

Edit:

But I am not a really big fan of the busway continuing north along the railway line. Why would they build a busway on that corridor if there is already a train line. If the busway would be extended, it should go towards central Bracken Ridge, Sandgate, and Brighton, since these areas would be more likely to need the right-of-way public transport.

So this is one of the main selling talking points that MPs and others will repeat and repeat when questioned about PT.

The problem with the “free space” argument is logic. You don’t logically need to build a motorway to build a busway (surface or underground).

It is entirely possible to build a Priority A corridor busway and not build any road tunnel.

The capacity of a surface busway is also low to medium, which is not good for this main corridor.

I always though if you were going to do a driven tunnel around Windsor Station that you would loop nearer to Windsor Station and create a connection there.

And Albion Rd Station didn’t make much sense.
