Automated Voice Announcements

I think they are related - once caught the train to Petrie (Sunshine Coast Line) from central and all the announcements on board were a station ahead from what it should have been. The guard had to keep correcting it, was quite funny. He just turned it off after a while.

I definitely agree that the announcements can be more stripped down for travelling from and to intermediate stations. But I would find it helpful if the announcements could briefly reiterate what the next station is so I could guarantee whether the next station is mine or not. For example “The next station is Nudgee”, followed by “Now arriving at Nudgee”, finally “Nudgee station”.

They can definitely cut out the “If this is your station prepare to disembark. Customers are reminded, the exit buttons are located in the middle of the doors” (Perhaps they could colour the NGR ‘Emergency door release’ signs to entirely red to warn passengers to avoid using it when not necessary), and “Mind the gap”.

But when approaching a major interchange or key hubs, I’d prefer if the announcements drew a bit more attention from the passengers since it is an important place that could be important to a significant number of passengers. However, info about the junction should only have to be mentioned once (I.e. at the “Now arriving at..” or “Next station…” announcement, not both).

When the train departs a key interchange, I would also prefer if they could announce the current train’s destination and stopping pattern to confirm if I caught the correct train. (e.g. This is a Shorncliffe train, stopping all station. The next station is Nundah).

This is just my preferences though.

Edit: they should definitely turn down the announcement as well.

I got a recording of the Buranda extended announcement. But it won’t upload and is poor quality anyway .

It goes for about 16 seconds. By comparison arriving at Morningside announcement is about 6 seconds. Why does mentioning Buranda busway station need to nearly triple the length of the announcement?

If you’re familiar with the network and/or planned your journey, the notice of the station and reminder of the busway will be a sufficient prompt. If you’re not familiar and/or haven’t planned, can you really use an audio announcement to suddenly plan or replan your journey and hop off a train and use a “frequent service on the south east busway to… southern suburbs”? I doubt it.

Mention the station and that it is a place to change for the Buranda busway station. Drop the “frequent services” mantra that sounds more like PR/marketing spin than helpful wayfinding information.

What is the extension type on the file? I may need to add it to the whitelist.

Makes more sense knowing that BCC buses compete with the trains here. They probably understand the passengers’ frustration with the infrequent trains and want to use that opportunity to highlight the frequent buses (only true for betro, buz, or cityglider) to win more passengers over trains.

Caught the Boggo Road Annoucement

Also heard another today after a guard switched off the Boggo Road announcement
Will upload tomorrow

Also cut short some others and I heard the old Roma Street announcement entering Roma Street

Maybe the guy who does the QR announcements gets paid by the word… :money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face:

“Now arriving at Albert Street station. Customers are reminded about the green spine that runs through this precinct, from Roma Street Parklands to the City’s Botanical Gardens at Alice Street - raved by urbanists and pedestrian-safety advocacy groups online. Change here for connecting bus services at the King George Square - City Hall busway station, or Queen Street Bus Station located within a 1.5km radius from this station. Both stations have frequent services on the south-east, eastern, inner-northern, and northern busways to Brisbane City, UQ Lakes, Woolloongabba, Chermside, Garden City, Mount Gravatt East, Greenslopes, Indooroopilly, Brookside, Carindale, Stafford, Aspley, Kedron, Carseldine, Bracken Ridge, Sunnybank, Calamvale, Buranda, Inala, Centenary suburbs, Kenmore, and Moggill. Customers are reminded to not put your bag or belongings on the seat next to you, as this may reduce seating availability. Thank you.”

They already would blabber that at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, and Roma St.

Don’t forget, “Please note the exit buttons are located in the middle of the doors…”

Do we really need to continue that particular announcement?

No - was a joke to add to the 1,000 word essay announcements.

I believe it’s currently Boggo Road, South Brisbane, South Bank and Roma Street that have these earfuls.

For some reason if memory serves me well, Buranda does not.

It does to a degree.

Here’s a recording of it, apologies for the poor quality.

G:Link also has change here for connecting bus services at GCUH and Griffith Uni. The plague spreads

Nah those have been there for years.

Phone died but it was at all stops with bus connections - don’t use G:Link enough to know if it’s always been that way

It always has.
