I guess they are predicting that most people will just find alternative arrangements for those 2 days like WFH?
There is an express bus R616 in addition to the all stopper R609, and there is the 649 as suits.
But this is a bit odd this closure, mid week. I have asked why this closure is occurring mid week.
649 effectively only runs contra peak direction on weekdays but I take your point ![]()
I suspect we will either drive to Landsborough and take the express or drive straight to Caboolture instead of braving the all stopper.
Edit: okay there’s actually a single outbound PM peak service leaving Caboolture just after 4pm
Sounds like a plan. Still waiting to hear why this closure is during the week and the impacts on rail freight and Traveltrain.
Received this response from Queensland Rail to the query:
Hi Robert, thanks for reaching out with your enquiry. These works are for the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (Stage 1) project. The scale of the works requires extended access to the rail corridor during periods without train services. This approach is the most effective way to keep workers safe and achieve the necessary progress. Track closures have been strategically scheduled to minimise impacts, considering freight, long-distance passenger services, and customer needs.
^ response indicates that impacts on freight and Traveltrain are considered in the closure scheduling. I assume it is least disruptive to have the closure on the Tuesday and Wednesday as they have planned. I think this closure is a harbinger for future closures as B2B works get underway.
Thanks for looking into that, I will try raise track closures at the next meeting with the B2N team and see if I can get any more info on what their plans are.
Yo. Be interesting to hear how they plan to manage the closures. Particularly with the impact on freight trains and the Traveltrain services, let alone the Citytrain.
Traveltrain pnly go thru like 2-4 times a day. Maybe just a small window while construction staff are resting for traveltrain & freight to go thru (?)
I’m pretty sure that Traveltrain services will start/terminate at Nambour instead of Roma St, judging by the fact they terminate/originate at Petrie when there are Northside/Inner City track closures. I’m not sure how freight operations will go.
I’d assume the Electric Tilt Trains will start at Landsborough as those are Tilt stops, the remainder of the Northbound Traveltrains starting from Nambour.
I noticed last Sunday that they have marked out the land with witches hats and other bordering markers just before the Glasshouse Mountains station. Considering this it’s likely that earth moving equipment will start sooner than expected.
Where will the electric tilts turn around south of Gympie? Its one of the few I know which can still turn an electric tilt
Construction Notice #29
Project update
The Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade (Stage 1) will increase the capacity and reliability of the North Coast Line, enabling more efficient travel and improved passenger and freight connections between the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Brisbane and beyond.
The project is currently undertaking targeted vegetation clearing and service relocations, with further construction activities to follow.
Upcoming track closure
Rail corridor work is planned between Beerburrum station and near Landsborough station during a scheduled temporary closure of the North Coast Line on Tuesday 16 & Wednesday 17 September 2025.
During this closure, railbuses will replace trains between Landsborough station and Caboolture station.
Start: First service, Tuesday 16 September
End: Last service, Wednesday 17 September
Affected line: North Coast Line
Next normal service: First service, Thursday 18 SeptemberTrack closures are scheduled to minimise impacts as much as possible and consider customer, freight and long-distance passenger service needs. There will be ongoing weekend and weekday closures for major project works for the duration of the project. Information about each closure and impacts will be available well in advance so customers can plan their journey.
If you are planning to travel during this time, we encourage you to consider your travel options, allow extra travel time and plan ahead by downloading the Translink app, visiting translink.com.au or calling 13 12 30.
Upcoming work
- Rail signalling
Work to test and commission changes to the signalling system within the rail corridor between Glass House Mountains station and near Landsborough station. This work will be undertaken continuously from approximately 6am, Tuesday 16 September until 7pm, Wednesday 17 September.- Survey and fencing
Survey and the installation of fencing within areas of the existing rail corridor between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains station. This work will take place between 6am and 6pm on both days.- Vegetation clearing
Clearing of vegetation near 401 Steve Irwin Way in Beerburrum, Tibrogargan Creek rail bridge, and south of Barrs Road in Glass House Mountains. This work will take place between 6am and 6pm on both days.- Service relocations
Relocation of Energex overhead line equipment near Church Street, Beerburrum between 6am and 6pm on both days.
Wonder what signalling changes have to be made as far north as Landsborough? A lot of temporary conduit has been laid on the ground next to the tracks between Glasshouse and Beerwah which could mean signal wiring is being moved but Landsborough is an interesting one. Early ETCS2 works perhaps?
Surprisingly still quite busy at Landsborough this morning, I’d estimate maybe 70% of the usual amount of cars. 2 rail buses leaving every 20 minutes, one express and one all stopper, although most will catch the express. It still sucks and adds 15-20 mins to the trip but at least we’re not the Gold Coast line (Sunshine Coast line track closures during the week are exceptionally rare).
Interesting that they’re using the old bus interchange on the western side of the tracks instead of the larger new one on the eastern side, seems like that one is for kinetic services only.
I checked out Queensland Rail travel. Appears no long distance rail services for the closure.

oof, an entire day sitting on a coach is not something I would wish on anyone.
Not as smooth this afternoon as it was this morning. At least one of the all stops buses is missing in action leaving everyone not going to Caboolture essentially stranded at Landsborough for 20-30 mins.
The express buses heading in both directions are overcrowded and people with luggage are really struggling.
No TransLink staff on site at Landsborough so the poor station master is trying to manage shuttle trains from Nambour and all the buses too.
Thanks for the report. It would be great if you could take some detailed notes of pain points and possible solutions so we can send some feedback through to Translink and QR for future closures.
