I have often wondered what a minimum cross section would need to look like to have a median running elevated metro train. Not really for this corridor (I like this corridor for a northern tunnel to carry the CRR sector), but Old Cleveland Road (west of Carindale ), Beaudesert Road (south of Mains Road) and some of the Gold Coast’s main roads come to mind.
Everything is possible if you have infinite money but why would we want to build an eye sore like that?
Gympie Road has 3 lanes on most of it, we do not need an overpass for the metro. Currently we just need:
- the tunnel to be completed between the RBWH and the busway section around Albion Road;
- the current transitway to be converted to bus lanes full time
- and a bus station on the other side of gympie road (northbound) in front of westfield chermside so buses do not turn right on hamiton road (government owns a bunch of buildings in the area btw)
I will defer the part from Chermside to Carseldine to someone smarter than me, BUT if I had it my way, I would reclaim car lanes for the buses. Easy like that
I would rather it be underground. Removing car lanes is extremely unpopular, unprofessional and frankly, dangerous.
Unpopular, sure, but how is it unprofessional and dangerous?
I prefer the idea of centre running as it marks it as a clear transitway rather than this sort of temporary turning lane situation. If ever converted to light rail, centre running would allow for conversion.
I agree, but centre running requires even more construction work. I’m suggesting an option that is easier to implement given the transit way is already there ![]()
What?
Industry briefing on Jan 19 if not already posted
I look forward to hearing more on their plans for what looks to be the Doomben line. Stupid if they rip this up IMO.
Is anyone from BTQ attending that Industry briefing on Jan 19?
Another exciting news is that TMR is contracted to supply Transport for Brisbane 16 articulated buses by the end of this month (January, 2026).
This is probably in lieu of the fact that the gas artics (1601 to 1630) will be retired early this year.
I wonder if these 16 new artics will have a pink and teal livery ![]()
Yeah. But we all know they will do anything other than actually upgrade and duplicate the Doomben Line and extend it back to pinkenba.
I don’t see much point in extending it to Pinkenba. The 302 & 303 buses provide a much better service than the train ever did, IMO (although the 302 could use an extra early morning service, 15 minutes before the first one, and two extra afternoon ones–one 30 minutes before the current first service, and one 30 minutes after the last.
Partial duplication to allow 4 tph, and perhaps extension to Eagle Farm so it could serve the TAFE. I believe the OHLE extends there, although I’ve no idea if it’s energised, or what remains of the station itself.
Saw Metro bus 9010 this morning and noticed it was named “The Ten Tenors”. Doesn’t seem to have got the publicity of the other named ones but articles suggest it was named mid Dec.
As of right now there are three named metrobuses.
- 9006: Darren Lockyer
- 9010: The Ten Tenors
- 9025: Brisbane Lions back-to-back AFL Premiers 2024 & 2025
Watch out for 9026 as it might steal 9025’s honours if the Lions get the treble this year!
If anything, I’m waiting for the day when Schrinner announces custom liveries to the Metro fleet.
They all look the same.
Also “Sister Angela Mary Doyle” is 9019
Honestly I agree. A much better use for it would be sending it across the driver and running it along the Gateway to form part of a circular route.
