Keen to ride the M2 rather than the 66. Hopefully it can mitigate the 66 being full during the semester.
As much as it’s memed on, BRT is always good, but Metro has always been a silly name.
I wouldn’t say always… but most of the time, yes.
Be great once that tunnel opens. Although looking forward to the Cultural Centre Station completion along with the new Bikeway along Melbourne St.
From what I’ve been able to make out, these are the span/frequencies:
First bus ex UQ @ 6 am
Every 5 minutes 6 am - 9:30 am
Every 10 minutes 9:30 am - 3 pm
Every 5 minutes 3 pm - 6 pm
Every 10 minutes 6 pm - 7:30 pm
Every 15 minutes 7: 30 pm - 10:30 pm
Last bus ex UQ @ 10:30 pm
The southbound following largely the same frequencies, give or take a few minutes, although they do start a bit later, with the first bus ex RBWH @ 6:35 am, and last at 11:05 pm. I suspect these are the first and last buses ex UQ turning around.
Based on this timetable being effective from 27th January, it doesn’t seem that M2 will have reduced frequency during university holidays as the 66 does. It does make me wonder if it will be carrying a lot of air, though.
Perhaps it will go to every 5 minutes from 9:30am to 3pm during uni sem? I tried searching for the printable timetable, but it doesn’t seem to be public yet. Time will tell.
First service updates for stage 1 (28Jan) have been posted:

I’ve also seen a picture of a stop notice detailing route 86 will end with stage 1 implementation.
Seems King George Square bus station is being renamed to City Hall - Brisbane Metro Frequently asked questions | Brisbane City Council.
News to me! Im not sure how I feel about this change. I guess more people know where City Hall is than KGS?
That wasn’t on the RATLR hit list!
"This name change better reflects the station’s proximity to the key Brisbane landmark, City Hall, and is aligned with the naming conventions of other Australian and international metropolitan cities. "
I would have thought that the station was more proximate to King George Square than it was to City Hall. Also, aren’t a bunch of the on-street stops already called City Hall?
Wow, did not expect this. I feel like KGS is much more well known than city hall, but I guess I’m on a public transport forum, sooooo it’s probably not for my needs. I only know KGS from the Bus Stop though, so I suspect we’ll watch people forget its existence.
This seems very much to be a unilateral move by Council, without any input or pushback from Translink/TMR (and therefore not RATLR either).
I will say that they are right in that many inner city transport networks do have a City/Town Hall Station (Sydney does, and Melbourne has one under construction). However, given that the southern counterparts are underground railway stations rather than a BRT station, it does feel a bit like Brisbane trying their hardest to be like big brothers Sydney and Mebourne “look, I have a City Hall Station too, SEEEEEEE???”
King George Square is very well known for its ability to fry eggs on the pavement on a hot summer’s day. Oh, and also for having the statue of King George V facing the wrong way originally (with this fact being picked up by the Queen of all people!)

This document describes the current strategy
Our current public transport system can only serve about 50 per cent of projected trips to and from the Games venues [6]. In its current state, it is not Games-ready.
The deadline to plan and deliver major heavy and light rail projects for Brisbane in time for the Games has expired. With just 8 years to go, we must focus on high impact, lower cost projects that can be delivered for the long-term benefit of Brisbane in the time that remains.
(Page 14)
The report claims that Brisbane’s citywide PT network cannot handle the high loadings that it will experience with the Olympics, and that new infrastructure based on rail (other than Cross River Rail) will not be in place in time to handle it.
There is probably an opportunity to expand the train fleet in time for this date with more trains, and timetable changes to support improved off-peak frequency but the window to do this is small. The current plans are 65 x 6-car trains.
The plans also show Brisbane Metro BRT expanding to the Northside, Southside and Eastside of Brisbane but the Westside of Brisbane has been excluded in the current plans (with the exception of a short section into UQ Lakes).
Overall, there does need to be a single state-level plan that incorporates BCC’s plans along with the rail network. With transport responsibilities spread across four different organisations - QR, BCC, TMR and the Olympics Delivery Authority, co-ordination across these might be a challenge.
BCC doing what BCC does best! Aka Whatever BCC think it wants to do!! SEQ is dead as far as transport planning goes. Gone back to Pre Translink days
KGS is BCC property AFAIK.
So??? Translink manage the public transport network. BCC are a supplier who don’t know how to stay in their own lane.
It was built in the basement of the KGS carpark (Council owned), but I think State paid for it. Wikipedia says it’s owned by State and operated by Council.
