Courier-Mail is running an article
That article quotes Labor opposition leader Cr Cassidy calling for The Brisbane Metro to be taken over by the State because of how the BCC mismanaged the entire project, and also a result of the delayed business case and its 2 years completion time.
And as usual, BCC doesnāt give a damn about anywhere outside inner Brisbane
Canāt say I disagree. TfB as a whole needs to go (or at least be sold to TMR so that TMR run it) and BCC need to focus on actual council responsibilities⦠roads, parks, gardens and services.
Plus the metro buses would look good in the new TL livery ![]()
Preach!
Certainly does. This has been some very adverse publicity for Council, particularly the revised timelines.
A good thing. BCC manages to avoid scrutiny far too much it seems.
Is that the spearmint green, or the neon pink colours ones?
Stay tuned for councilās livestream meeting later this afternoon (on youtube) ![]()
We should be hearing more about this matter, and getting a better picture of this entire debacle.
The opposition is claiming that the business case has not been started, whereas council is staunch that theyāve been planning all four of the proposed metro extensions.
Do you know if any more discussion on the Metro expansions in the meeting? Had a look for the video but not up yet.
One thing about the expansion Iām not sure about is for the M3 route from Capalaba/Chandler, specifically how itāll manage the Buranda-Woolloongabba-Mater Hill stopping pattern. As it is now it would have to turn off the main corridor to go into Woolloongabba and then go through the turning loop to head back which would end up increasing the total travel time (due to having to wait at both the lights and the turning loop). Would a tunnel linking Buranda to Woolloongabba be considered a option to go with? That way the metro wouldnāt have to deal with a lot of waiting and would also eliminate the need to use the turning loop (even better the turning loop could be put in the tunnel in a similar way to the one just up from the Boggo Road stop).
I doubt it would go through Woollongabba, it would most likely directly replace the 222, following the same route as far as Carindale.
I wonder if with the expanded āMetroā routes, the options would be M3 from Carindale (or wherever) to Roma Street using the existing 222 route, and the M4 from Chermside/Carseldine to Wooloongabba using the SEB and INB. There would need to be some work to get some charging point at Wooloongabba, but hopefully itās within the realm of possibility. This would allow a more direct route for the Carindale service while still connecting the Gabba area into the āmetroā network.
Another thought Iāve had with the Carindale āmetroā route is running from Coorparoo down Cavendish Road, connecting with Coorparoo station, and then through East Brisbane into the Wooloongabba station and through to Roma Street. This would open up better public transport coverage to an inner city neighbourhood that seems to be somewhat lacking from what I can see.
Thatās a $50 million question and no doubt a billion dollar answer.
Going by BCCās record and behaviour, they will go with the cheapest, useless and laziest option of the four - Skygate/DFO via Airport Link tollway tunnel from RBWH.
People wanting to go the airport terminals are at the mercy of the complimentary free shuttle provided by BAC. What happens when there are hundreds of people waiting for this free bus, and it only comes every 15-20 minutes. Lets not mention that is only operates on limited timetable during the day.
Expecting this free shuttle to be canned if this happens by Airtrain as they might see this as cheating their contract. If the only PT transport mode allowed is the Airport line, then why do you need another bus service going there?
A lot of this work relied on earlier assumptions all 3 levels of government would be happy to sink half a billion dollars into relocating the Gabba busway station so it would be an in-line station on the SEB between Buranda and Mater Hill. That plan is more or less up in smoke at this point so I strongly suspect the only time any Metro service will visit the Gabba would be if there is either a dedicated shortworking from say RBWH, or on a temporary basis due to disruptions or for events.
Yep, the cancellation of the Federal + Council funded $500m Woolloongabba Metro station (funded under the SEQ City Deal) happened pre-2024 State election. Once the Olympic main stadium at the Gabba was canned, both the āredā and āblueā teams were comfortable to cancel it.
What happened to the money, and whereās are the reports/findings of this?
Council wants to use the money for other things, as per this:
I dont see woolongabba needing to be a through stop on a metro route. I think its a logical terminus of a northside metro route (333 replacement perhaps) but nothing more. It will also have a hopefully high frequency rail station so theres less of a need for metro.
