One thing though to keep in mind re: Route 360/363/364 is that area of Kelvin Grove is highly hilly with very steep inclines, reducing the ability for people to walk (unless you’re very fit). Personally, I would just renumber Route 364 as route 360 and have that as an alternative to getting to QUT. Yes, the busway is nearby, but again, given the topography, it’s reasonable to expect a bus service to service that area given that the hills do add a level of impediment to the busway itself, unless you live along Herston Road itself which is at the bottom of those hills.
I’d also redirect route 360 towards RBWH, ie: continue it along Butterfield St, before turning left onto the busway.
Clarks’ Route 567 travels down Grand Terrace through Waterford which, despite the name, is not very grand at all. It really could use a bus stop in the vicinity of where this screen capture was taken, but there’s just not enough space for it. The route also runs as a single directional loop, likely due to these narrow streets.
The route also uses Jarvis Road which, while not as bad as Grand Terrace, is still a bit narrow for a prominent road (it’s 2 way with parking on the side with houses). To fit in a bus stop along here, 4 or so houses were given a long shared driveway.
It is disappointing, but not unexpected really. It matches the current 582, and the uni is still a largely a weekday destination..
With some luck, the route might become popular enough to get an hourly weekend service like the 560 (and speaking of the 560, I really hope to see the 560’s Sunday span of hours extended to match Saturday’s at the very least).
Yesterday at rbwh station two 338s had bunched and one arrived about 1 minute after another. The first was a green translink liveried bus. 3 people didnt board the first but boarded the 2nd normal bcc liveried bus.
I think was was genuiene confusion that these people didnt board the first bus because it didnt look like their normal bus. Its pretty rare to see these green translink buses on the northside compared to the southside.
Has anyone else seen something similar as its not the first time ive seen people visibly confused when their buses isnt yellow.
Is there any reason why the 334 doesn’t use the stop in front of Prince Charles Hospital that is used by the 354? Since both routes share most of the same route through that area it would make sense for the 334 to also use that stop so I’m not sure as to why it doesn’t.
I have seen cases of people at Upper Mt Gravatt and Griffith Uni Station who have ignored an inbound 555 in favour of a 130/140 (Griffith) or 150 (UMG) service 5 minutes behind, despite the 555 servicing effectively all the all the same stops (and the 5 minute wait between services cancelled out any benefit from the 130/140/150 express running).
Obviously this involves buses with different route numbers as well as different livery, but it wouldn’t surprise me if just the different livery was enough to confuse some people.
I’ve seen that before too, but put it down to people wanting to go to QSBS rather than Adelaide Street. You often see people on the Mains Rd corridor not catching the 131/141 even if they’re going to the city, because they’re uncomfortable with not being dropped off at Queen Street.
The Uni is, but the hospital is not. There’s quite a bit of activity there on the weekends. It will also be a good connection between Loganlea Station and Springwood after the former’s relocation. While the 560/555 is an option, the span of hours isn’t great, and you then need to endure M1 traffic, which can be pretty bad, even on weekends.
The hospital might not be, but at the end of the day, the 580 is still just an extended 582, designed to make it less of a useless shuttle route. I’m pretty sure it is still seen primarily as a route to connect the weekday-centric Slacks Creek Park n Ride, with where it goes after that more of a bonus for us than a primary reason for being for the route.
I always do this. My reasons however are because I have had terrible experiences with some of the passengers on the 555. Sometimes it gets some very antisocial young people coming from the Hyperdome and have had some pretty negative experiences from that. As a result I’ll always pick a different bus now. Nothing to do with livery
Obviously this is just my experience and may not be indicative of others. I’m also not trying to be mean and condem all 555 passengers. Just been burned too many times
Just out of curiosity, what happens to people behaving like this on buses? Do the drivers kick them off, or security/police called, or does business just continue as usual?
I can’t speak for all instances. Sometimes the driver steps in, but I can understand as a driver not wanting to do that, considering the history of bus driver assaults here in SEQ.
One time a driver kicked them off, and the kids proceeded to throw rocks and things at the bus from the platform. So it’s not always a great outcome
As a rule of thumb, drivers are not meant to engage when this sort of thing kicks off. It is as far as I am aware not only the recommendation from the RTBU, TWU and any other unions / industrial organisations, but also the usual directive from their employers.
Not sure if this fits here, but I’m currently on a pretty tightly packed 555. Why aren’t Clarks using their artics on the weekend? I also think 555s get heavier use on trackwork weekends; people with cars will drive to Hyperdome, Springwood, or Rochedale, to avoid the rather slow rail buses.
Even without driving, it’s quicker for me to get to the city by taking the 560 to the Hyperdome, and 555 from there, rather using the rail bus.
