Bus Services and related infrastructure

^^Only on Bribie as I don’t think it will connect to Caboolture Station.

Yes. It’ll certainly connect to the P&R though which has the 640. I really do think the 640 should be half an hour frequency all day though.

It should run later until 9 pm from Bribie to Caboolture. It runs later from Caboolture to Bribie though. Rather than a dead running service it could be a bidirectional revenue service in both directions until 9 pm 7 days a week.

Saw something about a survey for public transport in the Inala region posted on facebook.

New bus routes to surrounding suburbs and more frequent city services are wanted by public transport passengers in Chermside.

…

“I would say more buses are probably needed in the outer suburbs around Nundah and places like that, and probably even more services here at Chermside to the CBD,” said Matilda, who frequently used the 333, 340 and 330 services.“

There’s basically nothing after 9 o’clock at night and if people want to go into the city … it’s very limited and they’re just not frequent.”

Fellow commuters John and Sara echoed the concerns about access to nearby suburbs, while another passenger, Sonia, agreed more buses into the city would be beneficial.

…

A northside bus review was announced in July 2024 as part of a multimillion-dollar funding agreement with the state government.

That evaluation would have explored where improved services were needed, as a southside review had done.

LNP councillor Steve Toomey suggested on Tuesday the promised review was no longer being done after a new government agreement was signed, but he later clarified an equivalent review would be done, alongside future Metro expansion.

“The existing agreement doesn’t include a deadline for a review, however, a review will be undertaken,” a council spokesperson said.

“We also continue to undertake ongoing analysis and improvements of the bus network in collaboration with the state government.”

The Labor opposition questioned if this review would be completed before the 2032 Olympic Games.

“How can the lord mayor of Brisbane sit in the back of a chauffeur-driven car and think congestion will sort itself out?” leader Jared Cassidy said.

Just saw it myself then too: https://www.facebook.com/61555884922419/posts/122309115038196164/?app=fbl

Inala Public Transport Survey
Many residents have contacted my office about ongoing public transport issues in our community. People often tell me it is difficult to get around within our local area or to the nearest train stations, and that bus services do not always connect well with train arrival and departure times. Others have said they would like to use the 50 cent fares more often, but feel they cannot take full advantage of them without better bus and train services.
This survey gives you a chance to share your experience and help identify where improvements are most needed. Your feedback will support my work advocating for better transport options for our community.

Some questions to put out there:

  1. Did Inala benefit from any of the changes in the southside review?
  2. Does the LGCFR project allow for better bus connections to Kingston station from Inala?
  3. How are there no buses after 9pm on the northside. Ain’t all BUZ’s supposed to have last services until ~11:30pm?

So there you go, the BCC admitted there won’t be any northside bus review until after 2028.

Quite pathetic really. TMR should be leading the review ASAP, and let the BCC worry about where to expand its new electric toys.

  1. Not that much. There were supposed to be more changes, but AFAIK they got rolled back due to community feedback
  2. Why Kingston specifically? It’s nowhere near the closest station to Inala, and there doesn’t seem to be much cultural connection between Inala and the Kingston area. If you’re going to Kingston, you may as well go one further to Loganlea and get the express line connections. Perhaps you mean Richlands which would make more sense for a connection from Inala? But then that station’s not touched by LGCFR, so perhaps not
  3. There are buses after 9pm on the northside. The 333, 340 and 330 services referenced by Matilda each have a 4bph frequency inbound until at least 10:30pm

Interesting timing to be honest

Nundah is served by two (almost three) train stations, one with a four stop bus interchange. It doesn’t need more buses to it from the city, it needs more buses that go to destinations that are not served by a rail line. Buses should augment our heavy rail trunk, rather than try to replace it.

I was at Nundah station last week and was looking at the frequency guide and it’s basically 15 mins or better Monday to Saturday surprisingly enough.

When I was mentioning frequency gaps they should look at bus stops first so inner city bus stops in the Valley have an all day (across 7 days) min 10 mins or better off peak frequency. Using this benchmark, they can work out when buses should depart from each city or suburban location ensuring that they meet the minimal frequency of inner city stops, thus preventing service gaps of 15 mins or greater.

This would mean more weekend and off peak services departing some key suburban locations more often, which should be 20 mins or better from the current 30 mins or better off peak and on weekends.

This…:+1:

But it looks like they won’t be tweaking anything until 2029 in line with the BNE metro expansion. Although we might see some extra service tweaks here and there to cater for peak demand.

But no harm compiling ideas and we’ll put them together in an email to TMR and Council for consideration.

Imagine thinking nundah is an outer suburb.
Also theres heaps of northside buses past 9pm. It’s just outside of the buz routes, many of them are rather infrequent

btw translink hasn’t published a media release or anything like that for the new routes, weirdly enough.

Odd. There’s been heaps of signs around bus stops in Logan announcing the changes, as well as ads in social media (FB/IG, don’t recall seeing any on Reddit or Threads, though).

My driver on the 560 even mentioned to me yesterday about the new 580, which covers part of the same route.

I did actually catch a 580 from Springwood to Meadowbrook yesterday around 5:30 pm. It was operated by 907 CBS, a Bustech ZDi 450, and I was the only passenger on board. I hope patronage picks up as more people become aware of the service.

I think once the new Loganlea station opens, it will be a good connection between the Beenleigh/GC lines, and the South-east Busway.

Agreed. I reckon there should be high frequency connections from Loganlea to Springwood to connect with “Metro” extensions to there, and also Loganlea to Beenleigh via the Hyperdome and that area. These services would be good feeders to the rail service and SE Busway. I also think there should be a service from Loganlea to Beenleigh via Bethania and Holmview, and there are many feeder services that could run to places like Yarrabilba as well. Finally, a cross town service to connect with Browns Plains and the Ipswich and Springfield lines would be good too.

This would make Loganlea a real hub and also help contribute to an improved utilisation of both bus and rail in the region, hopefully making a meaningful shift in PT mode share.

If this happened, I’d say the 555 service could even be either discontinued, or kept as a peak only service, as people would be fed to either Loganlea rail or Springwood busway.
