Does Brisbane have the friendliest bus stop bell sound?

Brisbane is good. Gold coast on the other hand has easily the worst.

I’ve just spent a period of convalescence from a foot injury and work in Newman’s Tower of Power at the pollie end of William St. I would normally hoof it from KGS/QS, but the past few weeks have been catching the City Loop to minimise the distance to limp.

If I caught the 40, I’d get stuck at the Alice St terminus for 5+ mins before it took off again to George St. And if I caught the 50, I would get off at the Margaret St terminus, leaving a slow, painful walk up the hill to George St. Sure it’s a short journey to that point, but for people with mobility issues it’s an uneven and relatively steep slope (for City standards anyway).

Would adding a stop to the 50 at stop 105 (under the new casino) be feasible do you think? Or moving the terminus there to keep a lane free on Margaret St?

I honestly wouldn’t see why not, and I think it would make a lot of sense for the bus to stop there.

I think it would be feasible to have the 50 stop at Stop 105 William Street, but I wouldn’t recommend making it the terminus for the route. I would still have it terminate down on Margaret Street, but move the terminus down the street closer to Albert Street to better tie in with the future Albert Street Station.

I also would like to see the 40 and 50 timetabled to operate as a single trip over 3-4 loops to stop people having to be stuck in a bus doing nothing for 5 minutes on every trip that crosses the Alice St / Margaret St stops (over what is meant to be an 18 minute trip for a full circuit).

I’ve long thought that adding 340 Woolloongabba BUZ to William St Stop 105 would be a perfect addition to an otherwise very quiet bus stop.

Catch the 340 IB from say KGS, alight off at stop 105, and you’re within an enviable distance to QUT Gardens Point, Parliament, or 1 William St (bonus points because there are no cracked footpaths, unlike George St  ).

I recently came across a facebook post calling for there to be buses on Macleay Island with Hino Poncho’s being suggested. Linked within the thread is a petition for said bus service with more details about what they want in the petition itself.

I was just in Copenhagen recently and noticed that their off peak frequency is 20 mins or better.

Copenhagen has a similar population as Brisbane and we should have similar bus frequencies to match.

What I am calling for is improved bus frequency on weekends increasing the frequency from 30 mins or better to 20 mins or better. This especially applies to routes 338, 334 etc… and other main routes like the 301 and 320. It should be 20 mins or better from 7/8am to 7 pm on weekends and public holidays.

I think too that this is a realistic goal to achieve without increasing the PT budget dramatically.

You could increase to 3 bph on routes that don’t interact with rail services quite easily.

Seems to be a few changes coming with the start of the school year:

Route 50 getting William St Stop 105 near Margaret St (Star Casino): New stop for route 50 - The Star, Brisbane City | Translink

Route 182OB now starts below HPW busway and travels direct to Nursery Rd omitting the stops on Bapume near Holland Park high: Route 182 - Holland Park West stop and route changes | Translink

Route 535 - New stop in Flagstone: New stop for route 535 in Flagstone | Translink

Route 561 - Additional stop for 7:45 trip: Route 561 - minor timetable and route change | Translink

Timetable tweaks:

They seem to be progressively adding service updates so may be more to follow.

Are they going to install a new stop on the other side underneath Holland Park West busway stop? I can’t see how the 182 can get to Nursery Rd if it starts from the Bapaume Road - 57/61 stop that is currently there without going the long way round.

Updated route has it going down the opposite side of the highway for the OB services.

This is a weird one - a single additional stop for a single service only, with no corresponding service on the route in the evening. I wonder what the reasoning behind this one is?

For reference, the additional stop at Judith St is ~500m further down Bumstead Road from the usual Wisdom Way starting point.

Here’s the services from the new stop

I also found that rather odd.

My guess is that there’s been complaints from people living near that particular stop, and to also provide something for the relatively new development happening there. Also looks like they’ve extended that one trip as that’s all the funding they have (ie: every extra trip and route needs its own funding).

While that makes sense, I still consider it stupid that there’s only a single morning service only, without even a single partnered evening service.

Almost makes me think that it’s not even worth it…

Why do they need extra funding for one stop that’s insanely close to the first one? Drivers are already coming from there so why not just tell them to pick up from that spot.

Because every trip costs money. The old formula I used at TransLink during my time there was no of trips x no of days x no of weeks x $ per KM (eg: 1 trip x 5 days a week x 52 weeks per year x $5.00/km). Every trip counts.
