Bus Services and related infrastructure

It’s just one stop. I’d understand it if it were a more substantial extension but we’re talking about a singular stop on a road the buses are already on.

Seeing as only school routes are using that stop otherwise, perhaps it’s to reduce crowding on those school routes. That appears to be the last 561 of the morning, so it’s probably the only one that gets to Marsden High reasonably close to the first bell time.

That would make a lot of sense, and would likely be a more cost effective solution than adding a new school bus route.

Also looking at the service update on the Translink website, it says the Judith Street stop is a hail ‘n’ ride. Now I know the 198 uses hail ‘n’ ride stops, but they don’t seem like a particularly great option for a permanent urban service. Maybe they’re waiting until it’s turned into an actual stop with the right infrastructure before adding the other 561 services.

I suspect this is all very much in flux - I believe there are meant to be some more substantive Logan changes coming very shortly, beyond the rats and mice stuff rolling out next week.

Bye bye, 564, 568 and 582!

Now it would be nice to extend the 581 to Loganlea as well as an alternative to reach rail services when rail closures impact the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines.

Very glad to hear some of the changes being implemented here, like having the 562 service Bethania all the time, rather than as an occasional service. Shame the span of hours wasn’t meaningfully increased (there is one new 6:10am service from Loganholme, that looks to be it).

563 servicing Bahrs Scrub is a good move, and the extended operating hours to 10pm is massive. The last services currently leave around 6pm, now they will leave Holmview at 8:05pm and Loganholme at 8:55pm (dropping off at Holmview at 10pm)! Shame that it remains an hourly service overall, but at least there is now a half hourly peak between 7:05am-9:05am (from Holmview) and 3:55-5:55pm (from Loganholme). Not too concerned about it losing its Bethania loop now that the 562 will cover it full time.

Good riddence to dropping the two loop services. It was a stupid idea to start with!

The change of the 582 to the 580 makes it a much more useful service, and not just that, they’ve made it runs half hourly now too! Kind of funny that it stops short of the current Loganlea Station, but obviously this will be rectified when Loganlea opens in its new location.

The 565 dropping its Sunday-specific route is simply a side effect of dropping the loop services - the 563 covered this area Monday-Saturday, but the loop services didn’t which is why it was tacked onto the 565.

The 581 was created to ease peak overcrowding of passengers at Springwood. It performs that service well, but it really doesn’t have the number of services or the spare capacity to act as a pseudo-rail bus.

I’m looking at the 580 timetable and it looks like it was created specifically for people coming from the Gold Coast to connect directly with a 10-12 minute transfer window. That already makes for a fantastic alternative to the 553 at Beenleigh to connect with a 555, which was possible before they redid all Logan timetables in June 2025.

I do find very annoying that there’s no stop at the IKEA though. Can we please convince them to at least stop outside?

Unfortunately, the IKEA bus stop can’t be accessed from the Highway Service Road in a Southbound direction, and there is no footpath on the opposite side of the road (and no crossing across the road at the lights) to allow for a stop on that side of the road.

On the topic of buses: cancellations galore today all over SEQ and even in regional areas due to staff availability… Which usually means “driver sent to school run instead of normal route service”.

I don’t think many people have talked about it but a serious discussion has to be taken about separating school bus operations from normal passenger ones.

I guess you could make it do the loop a la 552…but I’d rather not.

It really is such a stupid design.

Maybe a flow on in Brisbane if bus drivers are affected by the UQ situation?

Could that be rectified by removing part of the barrier on the Pacific Hwy and allowing for right turns into IKEA? It could follow the same light cycle as the nearby junction (maybe something similar to the entrance going westbound on Meadowlands drive into the Carina Bus depot near creek road?)

Like this: (going southbound)

I’m sure the road manager would object because it would cause confusion for motorists and increase the likelihood of people driving into the bus only zone.

I tend to agree, especially as a lot of people already use that area as a loading zone, when I am pretty sure it is supposed to be limited to buses and emergency services only. Some cars even come in there the wrong way!

Also, doing this would cut the length of the public right turn lane into the IKEA/Logan Super Centre carpark entrance, which could result in IKEA/Super Centre-bound traffic blocking the road - likely the reason why that turning lane was made as long as it is.

It would be a even more awkward than the 552 as, because of the issue indicated above, the outbound 580 would need to do a full u-turn around the Paradise Road Roundabout to get on the right side of the road to access the bus station. That means doing this fun manoeuvre…

These are fixable, but based on the ongoing lack of bus stops for Route 747 at the Super Q Centre don’t hold your breath.

Today, after working for 5 years in the kelvin grove and herston area I discovered what is possibly the most gross misuse of public transport funding by finding out about the existance of the 363 Herston rocket bus route. I This bus has 4 inbound and outbound services per day and only exists to serve butterfield street and a small portion of herston road. In this incredibly low density area in which nobody is more than 1.5km walk from some of the highest frequency bus stops in the city.

Now before you say this could possible serve the specialist medical centre building on butterfield street for the elderley or disabled that might not be able to walk from RBWH station, or to service the small businesses on gould road and ballymore sports precint. These are peak direction only services. Nobody who works or wants to visit this places can actually get a bus there.
Now on top of this the first bus stop is practical too far away from the bishop street stop and the service being too infrequent for people to even use it as a transfer to the herston health precint, or the northern busway.
Genuinely astounding bus route that even not even a corrupt civil servant would be dumb enough to fund.

on top of my previous rant of the 363 (and also the 364) being utterly useless. I have discovered that on the printable timetable for the 360, 361, 363 and 364. It makes mention of a stop called Herston Road at Royal Childrens Hospital. Now the royal childrens hospital closed over 11 years ago. The building entirely demolished. And an entirely new hospital (STARS) has been built there.
The issue I see is this small error has lasted over 11 years through numerous document republishings. How on earth has an error like this lasted this long.

Let’s hope a northside review does away with them.

The 364 is redundant as people either use the QUT free shuttle, walk to Kelvin Grove Road bus stop for the 345/390, or walk to the N Busway for the 66/333/345. All of which are frequent unlike the 364 which is hourly.
