I have noticed there have been calls for a Bus to service Townsville Airport. I want to add to those calls, Cairns Airport also deserves a Bus service. Cairns is the Gateway to Far North Queensland. Its airport is used by many tourists and it’s the only airport in North Queensland that serves International flights. It is also served by many domestic flights too. Yet despite being directly connected to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand and even the likes of Singapore, it still isn’t directly connected to the city it serves.
It is a 3km walk to the nearest bus stop and combine that with summer humidity and hauling luggage, it isn’t exactly fun even for the fittest of people.
My view is that some or all of the services coming up the highway from the south (140, 150 etc) should take a different route. Instead of going to the bus station and then Cairns Central, they would instead go straight to Cairns Central, then to the bus station, then the hospital (to allow a single seat trip) and then on to the airport.
