I would assume that would be part of the process.
In an ideal world - that is with some sort of transport planning actually happening in Queensland - a new Cannon Hill station would have been built at Creek road as part of a TOD with the large land blocks either side (only one has been partially developed).
Instead Cannon Hill has been accessibility upgraded so I donāt see it moving.
If/when Murarrieās turn comes around for accessibility upgrade then that is a real chance to get it moved onto the straight track the other side of the level crossing. Again with any sort of transport planning it would be paired with removal of the crossing. Possibly a rail over road station and track?
Murarrie station in that location has a good potential to serve more people with a decent feeder bus service for the various Lytton road business precincts (rivergate/gibson island, metroplex, river makers, around Colmslie rec reserve etc) and potentially up to the upcoming Bulimba Barracks residential development.
Hey all.
Just had a query with a potential duplication of the Cleveland line. Is there viable space? Given the line runs from Thorneside-Wellington Point through housing and schools (the line is literally outside the school fences) is there actually space for a duplication? Also - the bridges also seem not very optimal to duplicate the lines on.
I recall a summary report a few years ago, if they need the space theyāll find it.
This might be of interest ā¦
Why donāt we build a spur from the Cleveland line off lota to Capalaba?
Where there can be an interchange with the āmetroā and local buses
Having grown up in the area and used the line many times for work and school, yes there is enough space. Yes some bridges will need work but in terms of the corridor there is sufficient space.
Welcome to the community @MossPickle!
Fun end to a busy day for Translink - Broken down train on the Cleveland line tonight impacting services inbound by the looks of it.
The delays resulted in this lovely service
.
Apologies for the blur⦠I was rushing to make my bus connection ![]()
I lived in that area from 1989-2015, and no, would not suggest a line from Thorneside to Capalaba, too circuitous and the demand between those locations is covered fine by the bus services (Routes 253 and 254). Although if you look back in history, back to before the line was built, people in Capalaba agitated for a railway line to the city via Thorneside. In the end the Government favoured the more productive farming lands of the northern Redlands so sent the line there to help transport goods from the farmlands there at the time (and then getting ripped up in the 1960s and then rebuilt on the same alignment in the 1980s).
What even in tarnation? Thatās really rare as far as Iām aware of.
Indeed. It was delayed by 30 minutes. Wasnāt even stopping at Eagle Junction
Trains suspended from Wellington point onwards. Apparently an incident requiring emergency services.
Railbuses in use
Continuing until at least 5pm.
Not that anyone is getting there anytime soon with the inner city issues.
ā¦Just got home and I have beef with Queensland Rail after that trip.
Boarded a really late Cleveland line train from South Bank that ran express to Manly from Murrarie after watching three Manly trains and a Boggo Road train go by, before the Cleveland train was told it was to terminate at Manly without a reason given.
Had to wait 30 minutes at Manly (with three trains at Manly all heading inbound) before a Cleveland service showed up.
Even the QR staff at Manly had little idea why. No railbus to make up that service.
Appalling afternoon from Queensland Rail.
Given Morningside and Cannon Hill have just had significant upgrades, I think the time may have passed for moving those stations. Murrarie is definitely an option to upgrade.
I like the idea of moving west on the other side of the level crossing, but I would go just a touch further past the next bend into the next section of straight track. This way, you would get within 500m of Cannon Hill shops, and there is already some medium level density in that area and you could rezone others to further enhance TOD. The challenge then would be the design and ensuring adequate parking. A couple of resumptions would likely do the trick with active transport upgrades and you could use the space to the west of the current murrarie as the initial works compound, with that converted to a multi level carpark afterwards.
I like this plan! Ideally it could be paired with the level crossing removal of Queensport Rd S (maybe by deflecting the crossing east over the current station?) and having buses stop at either Murarrie Road or at Edge Street near Railway Tce.
Honestly though that railway crossing isnāt the most urgent one on the Cleveland Line (Iād say the Coorparoo Rd crossing and the Lindum crossing are the most urgent ones)
