How does a cycling tunnel fit with UQ’s objectives when the above statement is true?

UQ objects to bikes on campus, but not bypassing under it. Both can be true at the same time.

Strongly agree! This is one of long-term projects that Translink (or failing them Council) should have been working on ever since CRR and Metro commenced construction.
We’re about to reach the end of a 10 year construction cycle and everyone will realise the next major PT upgrade is literally another decade away because no one has bothered to do any homework.
We’ve lost a decade of planning and “business case” lead time, meaning the construction capacity from CRR and Metro is just going to drift off onto rubbish projects like freeway expansions.

Coming back to this - it’s worth noting that the 2021 SEQ Regional Transport Plan includes this link in its mapping as a “Public Transport Investigation Corridor”
…and as a “Short term” Action at A3.25: *“*Investigate opportunities for a trunk public transport connection from Dutton Park, connecting through the University of Queensland to Indooroopilly.”
The new State government has committed to a new (!) “Integrated road and public and active transport plan for the western suburbs” as an LNP election promise by Dr Christian Rowan, MP for Moggill. He’s been talking about it lots (here, here and here). The last of those links from Feb 2026 says he was briefed by TMR on the “progress and specific processes for community consultation being undertaken”.
I haven’t seen any funding allocated by TMR, or any TMR documentation, consultation or timelines for the development of the plan.

BTQ could contact the MP for Moggill directly regarding item A3.25 for the latest news about it, and what’s his involvement with the Integrated road and public and active transport plan for the western suburbs study?

Just found a gem from the UQ StalkerSpace facebook (2019):
Back then, it seems like UQ students whom were unable to catch a full bus at UQ Lakes (or had missed the last 66 for the evening) were told to just walk to Park Road station and “suck it up.” 
This is a PSA announcement for all the newbies to UQ. *welcome* If you wish to go to BOGGO ROAD/PARK ROAD Station, every bus leaving from UQ Lakes, except for the 192 and the ‘P’ bus, go here. Take the 29! This one only goes to Woolangabba Station and back, and runs every 10 or so minutes in peak time. Leave the 66 and 169 for those who actually need it.
This is my 5th year at UQ and Ive never seen the lines at the Lakes station as bad as just now. The 169 snaking half way to the 66…the 66 heading almost to 169. Even the 209 had a line. And yet, Im on a 29 which people are mostly seated…

Time to send Route 29 though to Kangaroo Point and RBWH and use some of that spare capacity.

Might as well advocate to try get it all the way to Indro
A short tunnel under UQ will finally allow major cross-town benefits to be realised.
It will also give PT the edge as car trips are less direct.
The two major cross town improvement opportunities:
- University of Queensland for Southside and Western Suburbs passengers
- Brisbane Airport for Northside passengers (could get east-west bus routes to terminate at Brisbane Airport).
