Great another station to slow down the commute on the Gold Coast Line. Remember when it used to actually be fast.
bruh Pimpama has barely added any extra time to the service.
Iāve noticed they have an excessive dwell time at Pimpama. Maybe they can reduce that dwell time and use it at Hope Island.
From what Iāve been told by QR staff the new timetable contemplates 30 seconds per station, and with the extra 2 minutes added in everything should be balanced out with the introduction of Hope Island and Merrimac.
Is there really any reason for the dwell time at one station (i.e. Pimpama) to be painfully long at this moment? Why couldnāt they have trains at Pimpama dwell for the same time length as other stations?
Agree. The dwell time should be as minimal as possible to complete the task at hand and base the timetable off the data at hand such as the number of boardings at each station etc.
The only time you will see the tube in London hanging around is if there is a red signal. Other than that, it is unload/load and GO!!
Iād rather keep the through-running pairs in distinct colours. I wouldnāt want to end up on the Doomben or Airport lines trying to get on the Shorncliffe line because the PIDs show the same colours for the three different lines.
If we want to make announcements less verbose, then the passengers should be informed using visual cues rather than audible; and having a colour apply to multiple lines in one sector will only result in more ambiguity.
No, look at the mess the sydney T1 and T2 lines were a few years ago before the northern line got put back on itās own branding as the T9,and the T2 got split back into more or less the inner west and the macarthur via revesby lines.
Although exciting, those platform numbers wonāt be fully revealed until late 2028 or early 2029. Itās a similar approach to what Syd did with their Central station redevelopment.
The new concourse entry and building as well as platforms 1 and 2 should be fully open by April (Easter). This will make transfering from bus to train or bus to bus far quicker.
Progress at last ![]()
I guess the idea is that the rest of the timetable wonāt really have to change as the other stations open?
I hope that becomes the reality. Otherwise going to and from the GC will be painfully slow and very frustrating for people wanting to go South of Hope Island.
I still wonder if our cross river rail will do a part time trial like Melbournes metro tunnel but I think it will just be fully activated from day one in our case
I would be surprised if there werenāt several stages. Government will want to ramp up operations to catch any teething troubles.
- Exhibition to Boggo Rd shuttle. (Iām not sure if itāll be possible to reverse at Boggo Rd itself in normal operation; if not then the trains will need to reverse somewhere on the surface, perhaps even as far as Clapham yard, and perhaps theyāll run in service to Yeerongpilly if so.)
- Some sort of fuller-length route (i.e. it runs in-service through both Dutton Park and Albion stations). Again, existing service continuing. Iād expect this to be outside of peak, for sectorisation reasons.
- Full operation.
In fact, if CRR gets a soft launch, it would be better than the Munnelās soft launch since the SC-GC and Recliffe-Beenleigh trains will combine for a 15min frequency compared to Melbourneās 20min frequency for the Sunbury-Pakenham/Cranbourne lined. Definitely not sexy, but if Melbourne is fine launching the Munnel with 20min frequencies, then Brisbane would be okay with the 15min combined frequency igā¦
That would make a lot of sense, as otherwise connecting bus timetables would need to be changed with each new station opening, too. This way, they only had to change them once.
There will be a soft launch. In last years Estimates ( https://documents.parliament.qld.gov.au/com/SDIWC-1AF9/C20252026-4826/2025_07_31_EstimatesSDC.pdf page 100 ) there was specific mention of āthe soft opening timetableā.
Iāve also seen references to a transitional period of services in non-public documentation.
Some assorted Roma Street photos I snapped back on the January 11th. I did take more photos than what Iāve shown here, so if you are interested in any particular portion, I may have a photo of it.

Old Roma Street Station can be seen through the new building, but not to the extent of the earlier renders - Platform 2ās awning blocks a fair bit of it.
