A thread for Cross River Rail discussion and material.
The Wilbur Smith Plan 1970 (there were two plans, 1965 and 1970) version of today’s Cross River Rail proposal. The Wilbur Smith Plan was a highly influential all-mode transport plan that covered whole-of-transport system (rail, roads, bus etc).

Imagine how different the city would have been if:
- This railway plan was constructed.
- The tram system was kept.
It’s almost depressing to think about!
I took some pictures of the Ekka station on Sunday and platform 1 is still not connected at this stage. Only the platform two line and the third track is operational at this stage.
Thanks for sharing this. Since I live in New Zealand it’s hard for me to get there to see progress in person…
I’m assuming the third track is for freight/long distance services?
Yes, but also just for out of revenue services returning to/coming from Mayne.
The Brisbane Channel reported that CRR will ramp up construction and de-watering activities being 24/7 for the next 30 days.
Latest CRR Post - Testing Phase
Starting to look pretty finished, I am still skeptical about the government’s claim that we won’t see services running until 2029. Albert St still requires some work at the street level but surely not 3-4 years worth.
ETCS testing seems to be in full swing too, decent weekday closure coming up on the Shorncliffe line and CRR recently released a cryptic video showing testing and commissioning underway.
^ I have always thought the ’ Gabba station will be very attractive. Starting to look that way hey?
Agree, 2029 seems absurdly far away.
The Roma street works still look far from done, but not four years away!
The new government is trying to make everything dire and a mess so any earlier than that is due to their superhuman capabilities.
I’ve gotten a look at an internal calendar used by CRRDA that tracks the entire CRR project, and I will say that the years 2028 & 2029 do not appear on this calendar at all.
Probably late 2026 early 2027 by the looks of things. Preferably, you would need Loganlea station online for optimal operations and I reckon it’s likely that they could get that done within 18 months.
Gold star for you - you’re on the right track.
