For a weekend shutdown I don’t see why it wouldn’t be manageable for CRR services to go elsewhere. CRR is not an alternative for the other routes, but inner city shutdowns hopefully would now be limited to one of the 2 current pairs so that there are always trains from Roma St to Bowen Hills - absent some urgent or unusual situation (eg flooding, fire etc).
I’m hopeful that once CRR is online, that perhaps closures will be done in sectors, which will give as much of the network as possible the ability to operate throughout closures, and this would also mean access to the inner city areas will pretty much always be available.
The Minerva report dedicated some space in its recommendations for increasing the distance between tracks in-corridor to allow for more one-side-of-the-corridor shutdown. But I’m sure I’ve seen e.g. mains closed subs open between Bowen Hills and Fortitude Valley before…
Presumably it’s easier through the city when they’re more physically separate in different tunnels etc as compared to, for example, between Milton and Corinda where it’s mostly four tracks all next to each other.
Unfortunately the State did not listen to much what was in that report. I believe the lad was called David if I recall who owns the consultancy firm. He has some excellent recommendations and worked on some prominent rail projects overseas but as always QR/TMR know best….
It’s just occurred to me that the little shenanigans happening at Caulfield with interchange could form the basis of some comms about Boggo Rd.
Although maybe there’s a silver lining - the interchange is so long at Boggo Rd and the tunnel so much quicker into the city that it’s not worth it for CBD trips? And for South Bank / South Brisbane there’s capacity on the M2 as that’s counter-peak relative to UQ…
What’s the anticipated transfer time off the Cleveland line to Boggo Rd CRR?
It’s 250-300 metres, so allow 5 minutes for a bit of crowd delay / not being the fastest walker.
Would be quicker if they put a second bridge at the bottom end of the station. I really don’t understand why such a simple improvement hasn’t been included in the plans.
Projects like this suffer innumerable little cuts. There was also originally a much faster direct connection between the underground platforms and the existing surface platforms at Roma Street, but as it is you will have to walk for hundreds of metres and nearly leave the station before going all the way back to the other platforms, when they were almost above you from the beginning.
Lol that’s insane for such a small network. I’ve already looked at my portal options from the Northside and it’s really Northgate as the best option which will make the parking at that station worse (I only ever walk to stations).
