Currently Brisbane River ferry services are not running. Redlands Bay is also experiencing bus cancellations due to driver shortages.
Queensland Rail is strategically placing essential materials around the network in anticipation for track damage. At present, trains are running to a usual timetable.
There are major impacts to our network as a result of Tropical Cyclone Alfred and expected severe weather.
From Thursday 6 March until further notice, all services in South East Queensland will be cancelled.
Services will continue running through until last service tonight. Planned cancellations for today are shown below, however there may be additional cancellations as weather changes.
Please reconsider your need to travel. If you do need to travel, please travel early, plan ahead and stay safe.

A little odd that services in Toowoomba have been cancelled, as they are outside the warning zone, and Gympie hasn’t, but they are inside the warning zone.
I assume that it’s the potential flood risk. Getting drivers to and from work and the potential impact, affecting on time reliability during a heavy rain event, which now is likely to occur from late tonight onwards.
Remember the amount of water that came down from Toowoomba from a tropical low and flooded the Lockyer Valley.
Somewhat tangential but I can see Mayne yard out of my window and QR has almost completely emptied it out. Here’s a photo from a normal weekday Friday vs just now.
Obviously there hasn’t been the standard peak hour rush in, but this makes me wonder - where have they moved all the rolling stock to? This is the emptiest I’ve ever seen it, and I was under the impression they didn’t have much in the way of spare stabling capacity
Since the network isn’t running, they can just stable them at stations (this occurred during the 2022 floods). I’m not sure if this is the case this time around. Perhaps someone else can confirm/deny?
From memory, they put quite a few trains along the Ferny Grove line to avoid flooding, because IIRC, it’s the highest elevation line in the SEQ network. I guess there are other places, too, but I’m sure they’ll put them in areas that are less likely to flood.
QR will store trains wherever they can on the running lines if needed. They won’t be as secure from vandals unfortunately, but they will be out of any floodwater.
In addition to creek flooding, I was just thinking as well that they may not restart PT fully unless they get all the traffic signals up and running in most areas.

From tomorrow
Local services in Queensland – what’s working?
In terms of life returning to normal in Queensland, here’s what Premier David Crisafulli just outlined:
Buses: Normal Sunday timetables for Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast, and Moreton Bay (excluding Bribie Island), and limited returns for Logan and Caboolture. No buses on the Gold Coast. Check the MyTranslink app from 6pm tonight.
Trains: Unavailable Sunday, debris needs to be cleared from the tracks.
Supermarkets: Some reopened today, more to open tomorrow.
Ferry: Limited ferry services to Moreton Bay from tomorrow.
Traffic lights: Fifty restored today, but around 50 per cent remain out on the Gold Coast and 16 per cent in Brisbane.
On Sunday 9 March, public transport will be gradually coming back online after major impacts due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Some services will remain offline while our crews can undertake critical repairs and clean-up work while there are ongoing impacts due to localised flooding, road closures and staff availability.
We thank you for your patience while we work to safely return the network to service.
Buses: Most buses will return to service except for the Gold Coast and parts of Logan and Redlands.
Trains: Trains will remain suspended.
Ferries:
Brisbane River ferries remain suspended.
Southern Moreton Bay Island ferries will resume in a limited capacity.
Trams: Trams will remain suspended.
You can plan your journey for tomorrow using our journey planner and setting the date to Sunday 9 March.
Translink was just on the radio and they said to use the website rather than the app for updated information. They said how the app is currently designed it’s difficult to override scheduled services.
Due to severe overnight weather, we’re assessing network conditions and have received some cancellations for today.
Some buses are running to a regular Sunday timetable, while many services are running with diversions or disruptions due to localised flooding or damage where roads are impacted.
Please note that the journey planner won’t be correct so please keep checking our service updates page.
We thank you for your patience while we work to return the network to service.
