Data Black Spots and Onboard Wifi

Currently on the train to the GC and there still seems to be a lot of data black spots, especially between Altandi and Loganlea.

Which network? I generally don’t have any issues with Telstra. Your handset can make a difference, too. Pixel devices have notoriously poor reception.

On Optus but not a reseller. It has improved a bit throughout the CBD tunnels, but not on the GC line. Moto G5 2024. It can connect to a variety of bands. Not sure about TPG/Vodafone if they have the same issues.

Does QR still have that tiny data allowance on their Free Wifi or has the cap been increased?

G5?

Did you perhaps miss a digit? G55, G75, G85? G5 is from 2017.

Yeah, Optus is bad between Kuraby and Woodridge, and then again between Loganlea and Beenleigh (it does work in places, but patchy). I think Telstra has a tower in Karawatha Forest somewhere, which probably helps around Trinder Park.

WiFi is still limited, and is likely to remain so. Most of the bandwidth is used for operational things like CCTV.

According to their website they still have a 60 MB limit, which explains why I’ve never seen anyone actually use the free wifi on board

It’s a G54, it’s got nothing to do with the phone as this blackspot thing has been going on for many years.

Yeah read that too but I was hoping that they don’t apply that limit anymore. I believe their data limit was introduced back in 2008 and never modified for the modern era. A reflection of QR I guess.

60 MB? Luxury, used to be 20 MB
