Disruption Management (Events, Planned Closures, Track Work, etc...)

Also has anyone been in a train where the floor was really sticky for some reason? Because I boarded an NGR train from Wynnum Central headed to Sandgate at 8:00am this Monday, and the second to front carriage had the floor covered in some fluid that kept sticking to my shoes. It was really unpleasant.

Late night busway closure - South Bank and Mater Hill stations

Last reviewed: Monday 25 May 2026 at 10.49am

From 8pm until last service on Sunday 28 June South Bank and Mater Hill busway stations will be closed for tunnel maintenance works.

During this time, buses will run on diversion. We’re still waiting on that information, so please check back closer to the closure date.

I don’t understand why the busway diversions can’t be more formalised like the rail bus stops.

Still have a compromised network. Has anyone heard if they are endeavouring to sort out the stalemate. This is a woeful situation.

Customers, due to an overhead power line issue at Landsborough services are suspended between Caboolture and Nambour stations in both directions.

SOQ being reduced to one service per week is pretty insane. Clearly so it can be done with one set only.

Aside from the Tilt Train and Spirit of Queensland, all the other services (Inlander, Spirit of the Outback, Westlander, savannahlanader etc) should be discontinued and replaced with coach. For spirit of outback passengers, run an extra tilt to Rocky then connecting coach to Longreach. (Upon editing this, reliased that electrification is 1km shy of Emerald (used to actually go into Emerald, delectrified for some reason) so restore electrification to Emerald station and you could replace that with an extension of the tilt train

A lot of those long distance carriages are over 50 year old now. I don’t know anyone who uses the Inlander.

We had huge westerlies come through the sunny coast hinterland this afternoon, enough to bring down trees and powerlines, the area around Landsborough was particularly badly affected with much of the area still without power.

Unfortunately the track north of about Beerwah is very susceptible to branches getting caught in the wind and carried into the OHLE. Fingers crossed they put in a neutral section north of Beerwah as part of the wave to make it a bit more resilient.

The current L series carriages are a bit under 50 years old, rather than over. They were built in the early 80s. But QR said their effective lifespan would be up around 2025.

You might get your wish, because successive governments have largely ignored the business case to build new carriages. The only project that has progressed thus far is the 2900 series locomotive upgrade program.

We are seeing impacts out in the western districts. Returning from Clifton at night recently, a set of crossing signals had failed around Elphinstone and the electricians were on strike. QR had to hire a private contractor with portable traffic lights to man the crossing because wheat trains were going in both directions that night. At an hourly rate, someone’s making good money, especially if the electricians took days to fix it.

Social media post out on this one

Chaos this afternoon with crowds packed at Cultural Center, South bank and Mater Hill all headed to the Gabba not being helped by the track closures.

222 is full that I’m on and many other buses full.
They really need to promote the M2 better to get to the Gabba on gamedays… makes me fear when the AFL is at Victoria Park

Guessing pacific motorway gridlock isn’t helping either

Does the M2 service Woolloongabba on game days? That isn’t indicated in the online timetable.
