This is pretty fun, chatting and stuff
Yes btw, first carriage
Yep!
So many memories of trips on these to the city with my grandma to meet my Granddad who worked at IBM, and also to Tops in the Myer Centre. Anybody else do that as well as kids?
She took a battering throughout the day, but still ended strong. It’s sad to see this workhorse of a unit go
It looks like it was a great event and it’s heartening to see this level of personal enthusiasm for civic infrastructure.
Thanks all for the photographs/video of the day.
Great to see the EMUs were sent off in style, well done!
The obvious query now - are there enough trains available without the EMUs to deliver the timetable? I guess if 3 car turnouts increase this could be a sign that the train fleet is over extended.
If anyone is after final timings/details I archived AnyTrip yestersday for the trips that showed up:
11K1 (Roma St - Caboolture): AnyTrip
15K2 (Caboolture - Ipswich): AnyTrip
1EK3? (Ipswich - Ferny Grove) - Didn’t show up probably as IPFG wouldn’t be defined in GTFS
1RK4 (Ferny Grove - Roma St): AnyTrip
1AK5 (Roma St - Shorncliffe): AnyTrip
1RK6? (Shorncliffe - Roma St): Showed up before arrival in Shorncliffe but couldn’t find URL later to archive it.
The 1xxx code rather than Jxxx does further suggest it should have been a 6 car.
Yeah, I overheard that apparently another EMU (EMU 51) was meant to be connected to EMU59 but failed the previous day, so was taken out of service with obviously EMU59 to do the final service on its own. Which is kinda fitting in a way as I read on the Railway history Facebook page that apparently when they did the media launch of the EMU way back in the 70s, on its run with politicians and engineers, the train failed and had to be loco hauled back to be fixed. History repeats (almost)!
What was the whole list of trinkets available in the beginning? I saw some people carrying around a white book with red lettering, didn’t get a good look but am wondering. Also a bit funny that all the memorabilia seemed to be of the long gone bandicoot emus
It’s a build yourself a model train, QR pen and badge.
There were also train jibbitz (the things you attach to Crocs) there as well.
