EMU Last Revenue Service (EMU59)

Good evening all,

Queensland Rail has told us that the last revenue service for the EMU’s will be this Saturday (the 5th). This has also just now been announced on Channel 9.

[!note] Official Communication from Queensland Rail
EMU59 will make its final journey across the network on Saturday, where the community will have the opportunity to board the train for the last time. We will be releasing a special timetable so customers can plan their journey onboard the train. I will send that timetable through to you in the coming days.

It would be great to have you and any other members of BTQ there on Saturday. We will have a small event at Roma Street where we will be handing out some EMU merchandise while the train is dwelling there so everyone has an opportunity to take photos.

We would love to see members of BTQ there!

Edit: They’ve added a more detailed comment:

EMU59 will be on platform 3 Roma Street station from around 930am if you want to come and snap a pic. The train will leave for its first trip just after 10.30am so plenty of time.

Well, I was kind of hoping they would be around for a wee bit longer. Hope you all have a good day with the EMU send off. :+1:

Unfortunately I’m camping this weekend so no EMU farewell for me, which is a shame considering I don’t think I ever got any photos of them

I also would love to be there, but am off to the Snowflakes in Stanthorpe festival this weekend (seeing as it’s only half an hour away from me ).

Hoping for a great sendoff for the reliable workhorse that defined much of my youth travelling the network (growing up in the '90s and all).

I would have absolutely loved to have come but I am outside of the country, such a shame for me, please make sure you take some good pictures and videos for me.

After more than four decades of service, the last of Queensland Rail’s beloved Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) – the first electric train fleet on the network – will make its final journey on the tracks.

To honour their legacy, the EMUs’ ‘End of the Line’ tour will run this Saturday 5 July, 2025 departing from Roma Street station platform 3 and run on the Caboolture, Ipswich, Ferny Grove and Shorncliffe lines, stopping all stations to give the public a last chance to ride the rails aboard the icon.

EMU59 will also remain on platform 10 on Saturday evening at 6:51pm for 10 minutes to allow people to take photos and say farewell for the final time.

Come along to celebrate with us, check out the timetable below.

So the train is running a little behind schedule. Just leaving Sunshine now. Has been added to Anytrip running as train number 11K1. It’s packed to the gills.

Yep, very crowded. Pity they couldn’t have made it a 6-car set, but maybe no others were available.

I went from Roma St to Bowen Hills, that was enough for me. I might hang around the city for a while and see how crowded the later trips are.
