Ferny Grove Line

Gaythorne just needs to be closed and relocated a couple hundred metres to the straighter section of the line just down the road. It’s also crying out for an accessibility upgrade and the current station is quite worn down. I think the wooden footbridge there has been around since the days we had trams and before man landed on moon.

Imo

Close gaythorne, move Enoggera westwards, hoping to improve the area revival

Close Groveley, move Oxford park westwards

As those 3 stations are on curves

I’ve wondered the same thing. The spacing between Enoggera and Gaythorne is already super close.

Regarding Grovely, I’m not so convinced about that one. IF one was to be closed, I think it’d be better to close Oxford Park as Grovely is a straight platform, upgraded and probably more convenient for many passengers, and also for any bus connections.

Grovely biggest issue is LX on one of busiest roads in the area so both oxford park and grovely would need to be merged to enable the LXR to elevate rail in what Grovely station area

Yeah. There’s quite a few crossings on that stretch of line that should get removed right? That upgrade of Grovely is one of numerous examples of stations that should have been upgraded at the same as a level crossing removal (other examples would be Lindum. Alderley, Strathpine as well as most of the stations between Petrie and Caboolture.

That curve at Grovely is pretty gnarly too, but I don’t know how they would fix that and any solution would cost way more than any benefits it would bring.

But I’m probably distracting us from the thread topic if I go down this road too long ha.

How about close Keperra and Oxford Park stations’ and keep Grovely station?

One of the beautiful things about the ferny grove line is how much of its patronage is walk up. I dont want to get rid of that for eliminating a few stations and arguably making the location of the merged stations worse.

Fg line has pretty horrendous bus connections, outside of FG very small park n ride and its not even that long of a line, nor does much of the line go near any kind of density, yet it punches well above its weight for patronage.

Merging gaythorne and enogerra would just remove the patronge of one of the stations and have an awkward stations behind some houses.

I tend to agree. Brisbane’s train lines are pretty different in character - Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast are basically interurban, Ipswich and Cleveland are very much commuter/suburban, but Ferny Grove is almost more like a metro line in length and usage, and I don’t think closer station spacings are a bad thing. The thing is to get more density near stations and push the frequency higher for more of the day and week.

Yeah in my view there’s no point in merging stations for the sake of it. You’d only do so because major works like LX removal gave the opportunity to put a combined station in a better location.

In the case of the FG line, it’s obviously correct to have a station on Dawson Parade. Given an opportunity to revamp the line, though, it might be worthwhile to move Keperra 800m outbound, put Grovely on the western side of the road, and move Oxford Park half a length outbound too (to straighten it)

In red is the current Gaythorne station and in white is the site I would relocate it to. A pedestrian path/bridge would connect the existing car park. The new station would also be accessible. Existing buildings in the yellow zone would need to be resumed to make way for a station entrance/public courtyard.
